The dispensory question is now in
tin custody of the supreme court of
the United States.
The State of South Carolina was
ably represented by Attorney General
Barber and the court has the
argument of this officer, which is
presumably the expression of those
who advocate the dispensary Ihw.
Fortunately, in the arguments be
fore the court, nothing of a partisan
or political nature os politics arc now
understood and practiced, was presented.
General Barber and Mr.
Bryan discussed the questions involved
on their merits as questions
of the rights of citizens of South
Carolina.
What tho decision of the court will
be no one knows; but whatever

conclusions arc reached will bo for
the benefit of the people generally,
and will remove a cause of contention j
which has worried and bothered the 1
people of this State ever since the |
enactment of the dispensary law.
Jf the dispensary law is unconstitutional,
the sooner we know it the
better. If it is constitutional, then
it is the duty of every citizen to
obey it.
If the law is to continue, rcuant
developments will no doubt cause a
