is very hot unci dry, and in many places
cotton is not a Rood stand. Most farmers
ploughing over their crops. Wheat and
oats are growing some yet, but would be
better oft" with a good rain.

Veterans. Prof. II. P. Griffith made a
splendid address, which was highly complemented
for its deep, profound and
liberal tone. m The Indies Memorial Association
was present and so was quite a
numl>er of veterans from all over the
country. As Captain Jake Carl "enter
and Col. i'Jack(tiles, for whom tliose
carnj?sare named, respectively were both
killed at Seven Pines. 1 suggest that
loth these 1*. C. Veterans meet
in the field, during the Richmond reunion,

veterans and all other veterans, and most
especially the ladies of Virginia be invited

I don't know that the Mormon letter,
which appeared in the columns of The
Times last week, alleging tliat James
h. Strain, Trial Justice, had "with an
infurated mob" interfeared with and
broke up a religious meeting in
this section, desones the dignity
notice from this cm respondent, further
than to siy it misrepresents the facts in
the ease, and such assertions are as far
hncalh the dignity of a Christian to
make as his love for truth isalmve that
of sensual pleasurers. So far as a "mob"
waiting on the Rev. gentleman is concerned
I know nothing of it, and if any
threats were made 1 did not hear them.
The gentleman is at liberty to follow his
work, and I assure him I will not divide
