Public invited.
4? There
has been a good d? al of talk lu'.ely
about changing the place of holding the join*,
encampment of the Jotinsou Rifles and i'ea
Ridge Guards, and the Surviving Veterans.
Several placet have been suggestel as beiog
preferable to Orr's, among them being
L'uion, Lock hart Shoals and Jooesvillc. We
hardly see how the place could be changed
uow without a good deal of trouble. The
Companies invited the veterans to join with
them at Orr's and that invitation was accepted.
There was some talk at the time about
other places which were thought by some to
be more suitable, but the discussioa was cut
short by a suggestion from Capt. Douglas
that it wou'.d be a breach of courtesy to sug gest
any change of place as they were going
as the guests of the two companies.
To change the place now, another meet"
iag of the two companies aud another meeting
of the veterans, or at least of their special
committees, would be necessary. It would
not be hard to get a meeting of the committees
of the two companies, but it would be
next to impossible to get the Veterans commute
loget ber. This cotcmitlco numben
fifty?five from each township and nuny ?I
them were not here on the day of the meeting
whon they wore appointed.
A change of place is ceriaiuly desirable
howevar. and ahould bo effected if It can be
done satisfactorily. The present location is
only a mile or two f.om Jonosville so we arc
i old. and to clianoe t h nla.'C even two miles
coul'l not bo si gre;it inconvenience to anyone.
The Jolimon Kiflo* would hardly want
it at Union, because that would tike away
from them all the romance of the encampment.
Iiockhart Shoals is loo far out of the
way. l.csides, Jonesville through a select
com in it t oe has extended formal invitations to
to the two companies and to the veteran*
through Col. 1.(1 McKissick, to saeot at
that place, otitis suitable grounds and
pledges the hospita ity of the town.
Mere are the invitations ?
