scenes, a more bald, untruthful stateme nt
was never uttered than the one suid to have
been made by General Sherman, that General
Hampton burned Columbia. In this
strain 1 wrote the letter and gave it to the
Lieutonant, who kindly mailed it and it
reaohed its destination in due time. Ao
