was In the city Saturday. He repoited that
he began crushing cotton seed there several
weeks ago. Last week the weather became so
hot they had to suspend work.
?Prof. Mason DuPre has been traveling a
little for the Fitting School this vacation. Tl\e
prospect* for an opening are fair. He ha*
been doing excellent work In the tleld and he
will make a high record In the class room.
?Mrs. Dr. McMillan and lior daughter. Miss
Laura, of Talladega. Ala., after visiting Mr.

?Prof. Snyder and family returned from
Nashville last week. They were delighted
with the change In temperature. They left
Nashville broiling, roasting and cooking at

The Professor looks as If he was In good
condition to meet his classes and get the best

?The farmers generally report that the cot.
ton crop lost lu to 28 per cent. In this county
during the first two weeks of September.
About Goilghtly, Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg
and a few other places the crop Is very
good. Hut taking the county over there Is not
more than three-fourths or a crop. The corn
crop is also short.
?Capt. W. G. Urltton and Major C. C. Turner
have formed a partnership for the purpose of
conducting a commission and auction business.
Their office and store house Is on Magnolia
street next to Mllster's tin shop. They wl<l receive
all sorts of odds and ends that you do
not need at home and sell for you. Give them
a call and learn about their business.
?The pastors of the city churches held their

that ltev. C. II. Smith preached at
Bethel. Owing to a thunder storm that preTailed
from 7 to y o'clock Sunday evening
Bishop Duncan did not preach the sermon to
the Masons. They will probably have It at
some future time when the Bishop Is at home.
? Last Friday afternoon there was a light
rain In town and some heavy showers In various
parts of the county. About Woodruff
the wind was violent and considerable damage
was done. Sunday evening about dark
there was a thunder storm In town and many
places l?i the county. There was a considerable
drop In the temperature and the heated
term of September Is broken up.
? Joseph Huseman was severe'y cut with a
pocket knife Saturday evening by a neighbor
named Bush. They live very close together in
Twltty grove. They had words about the dog
of one of them killing chickens belonging to
the other and then they got together and Hush
drew his knife and began to cut Husernan.

The Poultry Exhibit.
Professor Meares, President of the Poultry
Association Is endeavoring to work up a very
decided Interest In the enterprise. This ought
to be the largest and most attractive exhibit
of Poultry ever held In the State. Many of the
business men of the town have contributed
money or valuable premiums. Prof. Meares
feels considerably encouraged by the help he
has received, but he hopes to get more as he Is
anxious to make this a first class show. The
people of the county should take a decided
Interest In the Poultry Association. Our
business men should help with small contributions.
Let us all work together so as to make
this a great success.

her neighbors. She was burled in
Oakwood cemetery Tuesday morning.

every day, and the outlook for
these schools is better than it has been
for many years. They are now on a
