Columbia, Feb. 21.?Farmers in South Carolina will bo particularly in? terested in a treasury decision rela? tive to their returns for individual -federal Income taxes. Collector D. C. Heyward yesterday stated that there bad been considerable inquiry from farmers who had held their crops over one year to another as to how to proceed In making their returns. Mr. Heywaid .stated that he realised fully that there would be some dlfn culty about the matter but that tho*e who held their cotton into another year would be compelled to keep at least a fairly accurate ucccunt of the expense of producing the crop. He referred to treasury decision 2153 which dealt exclusively with the re? turns of farmere and stated that cer? tain extracts from this decision wou.d be of eery great bmiefl'. to farmers throughout South Carolina in making their income tax returns: "The term 'farm' as herein used embraces the faun in the ordinary ac? cepted sense, plantations, ranches, stock farms, dairy farms, poultry farms, fruit farms, truck farms, and all lands used for similar purposes; and for the purposes of this decision all persons who cultivate, operate or manage farms for gain or profit, either as owners or tenants, are des ignated as 'farmers.' "All grains, profits, and income de? rived from the sale or exchange ot farm products, whether produced on the farm or purchased and resold by a fanner, shall be included in the re? turn of income for the year in which thr products were actually marketed and sold; and all allowable deduc? tions. Including the legitimate ex? penses) Incident to the production of that year or future yet re. may be claimed in the return of Income for the tax year in which the right to such deductions shall arise, although the products to which s u b exjwnses ano deductions are Incidental may no. have been sold or exchanged for mon? ey, or a money equivalent, during the year for which the return is rendered "Rents received in crop shares shall ^likewise be returned as of the year mwhii h the crop shares are reduced KioOeV, or a money equivalent, and ^wable deductions, likewise, shal.
