D*rk Corner, Oct. 7.?Once again I
will try and write a line for the
Watchman and Southron. Nothing
very exciting at this time.
Cotton is about all gathered. Peas
almost a failure in some or most
Places. Corn Is also short. Potatoes
and cane are fairly good. A lot of
tine hay has been saved, and that of
a tine quality.
Rev. W. O. Elwell preached a fine
sermon at the church hero last Sun?
day night, the 1st.
I hear, that Mr. J. Dargan Osteen
is and has been quite sick for some
time und Mr. E. L, Osteen has had a
sick son with malarial fever.
I have heard Mrs. Joe Galloway,
who lives in Central Privateer, died
very suddenly last Th.irsday morn?
ing.
Sheriff Bradford and Rural Police?
man Newman are or have been
around tightening the negroes by
searching their houses, hunting for
Ruby Lufd. who killed McBrldo lust
Saturday night. I have not heard
anything of Ludd since he did the
killing.
Since n y last letter our commun?
ity has be in saddened by the death of
Mrs. W. J. Ardis. She was a woman
that Was bellked by everybody, both
white and colored. She died Septem?
ber 9th, being aged 71 years, seven
months and twelve days. Had she
lived until the 16th day of next Jan?
uary she and Mr. Ardis would have
celebrated their golden wedding. They
were man led January 16th, 1867.
She leaves besides her aged husband,
two brothers, A. 8. Weeks of Gulf
port, Miss, and R. P. Weeks of this
corner and several nephews and nieces
to mourn her death. Before her mar?
riage Oho was Miss Ann J. Weeks, a
daughter of William and Emily
Weeks. She was a cousin to Mr. Al?

from the highest to the most humble
citizen do his duty. And with a Ion?
pull, and a strong pull and a pull
all together we can place old South
Carolina where she ought to be, in
the front rink of the States of the
Union. This Is the opinion of old

N. B. W. J. Ardis begs to thank
everybody who was so kind to hlin

FAT I MA
^Sensible Cigarette
Such men want comfort
AFTER smoking
IT'S NOTICEABLE that more and moie sub
4 stantial men are choosing Fatimas for their
steady smoke. There must be some reason for
it. Surely, these men would quickly pay a far
higher price for another cigarette if it suited
them better.
That is just it. No other cigarette can quite
give what Fatimas give.
Some other cigarettes taste good, yes. But
Fatimas do more?they are comfortable. Not
only are they comfortable to the throat and
tongue ivhile you smoke them, but, much mora
important, they leave a man feeling keen and
"fit" AFTER smoking, even though he smokes
more than usual.
