Workman , Dec. 1.?Miss Marie Hairington and Mr. McLaurin Low der were married Wednesday, Nov. 28th. Owing to the illness of the bride's sister-in-law it was a very quiet affair, only a few relatives and trie;ids of the contracting parties be? ing present. The bride and groom, Lucas Harrington, brother of the brid?, and Miss Lessie Strange went from Workman to Manning in an automobile, the marriage taking palce at t le Presbyterian Manse, where Rev. Mr. McCord performed a very short but 1: .pressive ceremony which made the happy young couple as one. The bride wore a handsome suit of brov n, while the maid of honor, Miss Stra ige, wore a beautiful suit of tan cord?d silk. Immediately after the cere nony bridal party left for their new future home where a very charm? ing teception was held. All of our teach? ers left Wednesday afternoon to spend the holidays at homo and with their friends. Miss Etheredge returned on Friday, Miss Strange on Saturday and Miss Wingate on Sunday. All re? port laving had a grand time, but I am a;.raid going home does not agree with 'Our Little Queen" as she is wearing such a lonely expression since she returned. Hock Dill, Dec. 2.?A reception was given to those delegates attending the Methodist conference on Friday af? ternoon, November 2$. They were received hy Dr. and Mrs. Johnson and the members of the faculty. They were then taken to the av.ditorium by the marshals, where an organ recital was given. Afterwards, refresh? ments were served on the first floor. On ast Monday evening, the annual joint celebration of the three societies of Wi ithrop was held. Three form? er students of the institution added very much pleasure to the evening's program, one from each society. Miss Lucile Melton spoke for Winthrop Liters y Society, Miss Eleanor Heid , for Curry Literary Society, ami Miss Kudora Kirk for the Wade Hampton Literary Society. Washington, Dec. 2.?Cut-rato dealers In copyrighted hooks won a victory today whin the Supremo Court held that agreements between publishers and regular booksellers not to sell books to those who resell to the public at less than the price lixed by the publisher violate the Sherman Anti-Trust law. Justice Day, announcing the de? cision, said violation was not "avoid * d" by the benefits of the Copyright law. K. H. Macy ? Co, brought the suit against the American Publishers' Association, comprising about 76 per cent of the publishers in the United States, and ? ertain dealers who com? prise 90 per cent of the wholesale snd retail book dealers.
