He was burled Tuesday afternoon
at Home Branch church. Rev. Kizer
preached the funeral sermon. There

Mr. Stone leaves a wife, two brothers.

Mr. W. M. Broadway is in the city
attending court this week.
Crops are looking well in this

Mayesvillc Downs Sardinia.
Mayesville, June 28.?Mayesvillc
defeated Sardinia this afternoon in
an interesting although ? one-sided
game of ball. The locals began the
game somewhat handicapped on ac?
count of the absence of several retru
lar players, but some "old timers"
were substituted and the team put
up an excellent exhibition of base?
ball. The battery work of Mayes, If.,
and Corbett for the home team was
the feature of the game, Maye3 al?
lowing only one hit and retiring a
large number of the Sardinia batters.
The work of Maye9. C, on first and
Rhodes at short, two of the "old tim?
ers," was surprising and undoubtedly
counted heavily in the local team's
victory. The game was called at the
end of the seventh inning &j it was
begun late and the visitors desired to
get on their homeward trip before
darkness. Mr. Millsaps of Sardinia
acted as umpire and proved a very
fair and agreeable official, not a pro?
test being registered against his de?
cisions by either team.
