They spent two days here and last Wednesday night they were in consultation with the Secre? tary of the Chamber of Commerce for several hours gathering Informa tton as to population, growth of the city and other matters which would show whether a gas plant would pav In Sumter. Mr. Russell had a copy of the city map made while here. He also looked Into the question of se? curing a site for the plant. Mr. Rus? sell said to Secretary Reardon that so far as he and the two gentlemen who had visited the city with him are concerned, that they were very much impressed with Sumter, and that they would meet with other as assoclates of theirs In New York this week to settle the question as to the Sumter plant. Mr. Russell said furth? er that he is so much impressed with Sumter that he would offer to take from $25.000 to $40.000 of the stock himself. As soon as the New York parties are consulted, and if tnose gentlemen are willing to accept the judgment of Messrs. Russell and Tay? lor as to Sumter, Mr. Russell will re? turn to Sumter and ask city council r'or a franchise.
