Charlotte, X. C, Oct. 11.?F. Kiku
chl, a Japanese acrobat connected
with a traveling show, was murdered
in the woods, two miles from Newton,
Catawba county, this afternoon.
George Sigmon, a suburban citizen,
heard six shots in the woods near his
home and started out to investigate.
As he entered a deep gully 300 yards
from his home Henry Yamagata,
manager of the show, climbed the
bank and pointing to thr gully ex
cclaimed: "There's a dead man down
there." Mr. Sigman descended tlw
cliff and found a dead Japanese lying
under a pile of boards, hastily thrown
over the body. He hastened to town
and notified the sheriff. In the mean?
while Yamagata ran to the show tent,
changed his clothes and made off.

The dead man was featured with
the show In connection with two little
Japanese girls and his ayeged slayer
was manager of the outfit. All were
working under the direction of a
booking agent at Buffalo, N. Y., and
he was acquainted with the tijagedy
tonight by the county officials. The
show people, closely questioned by
the sheriff, knew nothing as to toe
murder or its motive. An Inquest de
\ eloped that there were five bullet
holes In Kikuchi's body, all entering
his back.

a disastrous fire which swept over
Carrabelle, Fla., a small town east of
Pensacola, late Thursday night, was
brought to this city today by the
steamer Tarpon. Nine business
houses, a residence and many thou?
sands of feet of lumber were destroy?
ed, entailing a loss estimated to he
more than $100,000. Among the
buildings destroyed were the United
States customs house, the postofflce,
the freight and passenget depot ii
the Georgia, Florida & Alabama rail?
road and the warehouses and wharves
of the St. Andrews & Gulf Steamship
company. The fire started in one i?f
the stores and, fanned by a high wind,
ppread rapidly. All communication
with the town was cut off, the tele?
graph offices having been among the
buildings burned.
