CAMPAIGN OONTIUBUTIONH.
Sumter county. Including this city,
fete contributed liberally toward the
Bryan campaign fund, if the amount
ejteea In compared with the con tri bu
tftons from other counties; but If the
ejomaarleon la made with tha amount
that a county, having a voting strength
mt more than two thousand, should
gdve tha contribution appears small.
Wa believe that 8umt?r county could
easily double the contribution with
?mt taxing any one person too heavily;
W% believe that every Democrat
should ahow hla faith in the party
at? which he la a member by giving
something toward defraying tha legit?
imate expenses of the campaign and
we trust those who have not already
contributed will also take this view
*9t the matter and hand their contrl
fcntkms to County Chairman J. H.
Clifton, who, with the aaalatance of
Mr. R I. Manning, was Isrgely In
ottrnsnental In raising the fund already
torward?** te the treasurer of the
JfatioauU Cemmlttee.
A taw dajra ago a central committee
araa appointed by State Chairman Wl
Ha Jones te take charge of tha eollec
atea of funds throughout the 8tate.
Taue central committee has appointed
a> reaamlttae In each county of tha
Sanaa, the committee for Sumter
ejeaaey being H o. Oeteen. j. H ciiff
mm and S. I. Reardon. This com
enrUee finds that the city having been
caaieaaeed already there la little or
eaathrag to be done In that way here.
Therefore no further can vase will be
aaadi. bait all contributions will be
raaatved and forwarded. Contribu
tanae may be left with either member
e>C the local committee or with R. L

The Importance of the Oat Crop.
Tour attention should now be di?
rected to the oat crop. Corn will, bo
scarce next year. The fodder crop 1m
light. Oats will be areiUW needed.
We know a lot of land, about 2 3-4
acres. In corn. It looks as If there
will be 125 to 150 bushels of fine corn
on the lot. It Is well covered with
peavlnea If that lot Is turned early
In October, or by the 20th, harrowed
and planted In Appier Oats, It ought
to make 160 bushels. All the ferti?
liser needed for the oat crop
would be 300 pounds of nitrate
of soda on the lot. 'Followed with peas
It would make five tons of hay. Or If
planted in corn 6 feet by 18 Inches as
?toon aa the oats are hauled off, It
would make 120 bushels of corn. A
good crop of pead could also be made
by sowing the whlppoorwlll or other
early pea, or planting a row In the
middle. Either way would beat cot?
ton. The oats and hay would be worth
$175; the oats and corn $196. Such
farming Is practicable. The young
farmers of the county can do it. Will
they try It??Carolina Spartan.
