Here is what President Meli qf Clemson College reported to the Legislature: * As England Sees Us It is gratifying to note that the agent sent out by the Economic Msnniatirm of Manchester, England, a few months ago to examine the ooodition of cotton growing throughout the South, makes the following report on the conditions as he found them in South Carolina. ?i find that the best farmers, the most systematic and by far the most thrifty and economical administration of the farm is unquestion? ably to be found in South Carolina. Here the cultivation of the soil is regarded as a lifetime pursuit, and in the majority of instances I found the farmer, whether landlord or tenant, a close student of the branches of science which enable him to know the wants of the soil and the proper means of supplying these wants The Clemson Agricul? tural college has been a real blessing to the farmers of South Carolina. Under its tutorage, young men have discovered that the cultivation of the soil is the noblest, and by far the most profitable, occupation they can enjoy." Have You Seen This ?
