Wyi Ballard shot his sister, Becky Ballard, at Pelham's mill, Clarendon .county, on Monday. John M. Several barns and dwelling houses were blown down. ?Mr. Tom Steele's house was wrecked -and he was hurt. Dr. Baylis H. The Chicora cotton mill at Rock Hill has. been bought by northern, capitalists. . EL D. Wheat, of the Irene Mills at .Gaffney, is beautifying the grounds adjacent to the mill. A young, woman of Aiken was burned to death while kneeling by the fire saying her prayers. Clarence Jones, at Gaffney, set 65 -eggs under four hens and there were hatched out 64 chickens. "~ mk George H. Chapin, of Boston, is in ?Greenville, and will undertake the -development of the Crescent mineral spring in that city. Messrs. Yeldell, of Edgefield, and Newell, of Oconee. have been engag? ed to do the surveying for the pro? posed new county of "Highland." They will be paid $1.200 for the work and promise to have it completed by July 1. The 78th annual commencement of the Medical College of South Caro? lina took place at Charleston on Wedneday night at the Academy of Music. Twenty-one youg men receiv? ed their degrees as doctors of medi? cine and 16 as graduates in phar? macy. Mr. James Henry Hice, Jr., has been elected secretary of the South Carolina Audubon society for a term of two years. Mr. Rice is well known throughout the State as a gifted writ? er and one of the best informed men in South Carolina, especially on the subject of game and fish and he will j ! -enforce the new laws to the letter.
