A Leading Bank Blown Up and the Debris Takes Fire. St. Petersburg, Jan. 16.-A big ex? plosion occurred in the Municipal Credit Company's Bank at midnight Several persons were killed. Fire fol? lowed the explosion and in a short time the whole interior was in flames. The cause of the explosion is unknown to the public. Details cannot be ob? tained from the police officials. Orangeburg, Jan. 15.-Joe Bow? man, an 18-year-old negro, who was arrested at Blackville last night on the charge of an attempted criminal assault upon Mrs. Andrew Byrd, was brought here at 2 o'clock this morn? ing. Court being In session, a true bill was returned against the negro. He was tried, convicted and at 4 o'clock this afternoon sentenced to 20 years in the State penitentiary. Bowman was immediately placed on the train for Columbia to begin his sentence. Andrew Byrd, who was in court, is said to have threatened to kill the ne? gro. .Food don't digest? Chicago, Jan. 16.-Eight million dollars will be added to the combined salaries of the 20,000 locomotive en? gineers in the west and south. This is the price agreed upon as a settle? ment between the railroads and the engineers who have been threatening to strike. It is the biggest award ever agreed upon in a labor conference. Richmond, Va., Jan. 16.-The Sea? board Air Line Florida limited spe? cial, No. 84, traveling north towards Richmond, ran into an open switch three miles north of Raleigh early today.
