THE PATRICK CASE. There Are Indications That Governor Higgins Will Commute Sentence. Washington, Dec. 13.-The case of Albert T. Patrick, the convicted mur? derer of Wm. Marsh Rice, was dis? missed hy the supreme court today ?*x the request of his counsel. This removes the last obstacle to the com? mutation by Governor Higgins, of ??ew York, of Patrick's sentence from ?death to life imprisonment. .There's a Hill at Bowie, Tex., that's twice as Dig as last year. A Texas Wonder. SENATOR BROWN DEAD. ! Mrs. Brown, Who Shot Him, Collaps J ed When Informed of His Death. Washington, Dec. 13.-Mrs. Annie M. Bradley, who shot former United States Senator Brown, of Utah, col? lapsed today when informed that Brown had died at midnight. She had controlled herself well since the tragedy, believing that Brown would recover. On hearing that Brown was dead, she declared her only regret j was that she had not shot herself after wounding Brown. An attempt was made vesterday to get an ante mortem statement from Brown. He insisted that he was go? ing to get well, so the effort was abandoned. A freight train was wrecked at Herberts, Union county, Tuesday. Law-Abiding Citizens Angered by the Action of President in Supporting Mormon Organization in the Re? cent Election in Idaho and Utah. Washington, Dec. 13.-Senator Du Boise, of Idaho, in a sensational speech in the,, senate urging the un? seating of Senator Reed Smoot, of Utah, charged that President Roose? velt had "knowingly and willingly" aided the Idaho Mormons in the re? cent campaign. He cited Secretary Taft going to Idaho and saying he was sent by the president. The non-Mormon citizens of Utah, he declared, think they are entitled to the support of law-abiding citizens everywhere in their efforts to main? tain the standard of American citi? zenship there. If they cannot re? ceive this support they have the right at least to demand that the president shall net use his power in the inter? ests of a "law-defying and un-Amer? ican organization." D. Barnett, W. A. Bow? man, J. H. Chandler, P. P. Finn and R. F. Haynsworth. Absent-Aldermen H. C. Hayns? worth, E. H. Rhame, R. K. Wilder. Minutes of Nov. 28th were read and adopted. A request from Monaghan Hose Company No. 2, for certain repairs on their building was referred to the fire department committee, with pow? er to act, provided the repairs do not cost more than $150. The Civic League asked for an ap? propriation of $100 towards a stone coping around the Washington Street School grounds. The request was re- j ferred to the finance committee for i consideration. Mr. Chandler, for the committee ? of public works, reported work in progress on Church and Calhoun streets, for which 200 feet of 15 inch drain pipe is needed. Council au authorized its purchase. He state that the request of the Bell Company for the privilege of placing poles on Main and Liberty streets had been, with? drawn. He further reported that his committee had conferred with Mr. W. H. Ingram in regard to the streets to be used for a street railway, and that the following streets had been designated : All of Main street, Tele? phone street to depot from Harvin -Harvin street, Bartlette street to limits; Dingle street, Warren and Broad streets; Salem Avenue, Cal? houn street and Hampton Avenue; Liberty street, east to limits; Man? ning Avenue, West Calhoun, Hampton J Avenue, Magnolia street.
