Intyre, the alleged forger recently ar? rested in New York upon his arrival from Mexico and brought to Norfolk to answer the charge of obtaining $200 from the Citizens' Bank of this city upon a forged draft, entered a plea of guilty in the corporation court today and asked for mercy. Owensboro, Ky., Feb. 17.-Roy Green \ras hanged here this morning ! for the murder of* James Coomer on July 31st, 1904. The prisoner confess? ed the c rime and said whiskey had led him to .it He said he had fully re? pented. His neck was . not broken and Green ?lied of strangulation, being pronounced dead ll minutes after the drop fell at 7 o'clock. The murderer was less than 18 years old. He had borne a good reputation prior to the crime. Baltimore, Feb 17.-William Henry Jones, colored, was hanged here this morning for the murder of James Emery Cunningham on January 8, last. His luggage is at the St Dennis Hotel, but his whereabouts is a mystery. Startling, But True. ?People the world over were horri? fied on learning of the burning of a Chicago theatre in which nearly six hundred people lost their lives, yet moree than three thousand peo? ple died from pneumonia in Chicago during the same year. SliBMARItfc BOAT DISASTER. BRITISH BOAT EXPLODES IX QUEENSTOWN HARBOR. Crew Killed and Party of Rescuers Also Killed or Injured by Second Explosion. Queenstown, Feb. 16.-An explo? sion occurred this morning on* the British submarine boat known as No. Five, which was in this harbor. It is reported that six of those aboard were killed . The explosion occurred while the officers were filling the gasoline tank. A party of rescures were bring up the dead and injured from the hoid. The original crew of the submarine boat numbered ten. The total cas? ualties, including those among the rescuers, is said to he 20. The sub? marine is now afire. INVESTIGATION ORDERED. j Order Followed Call at White House of Representative Campbell, Washington, Feb 16.-President Roosevelt today ordered a secret investigation of the Standadrd. Oil Co., pany at the hands of the department at the hands of the department reference to the company's recent operations in Kansas. The order fol? lowed the call at the white house of Representative Campbell of Kansas, who procured yesterday in the boase a resolution providing for such an in? vestigation. The president's action, however, is independent of the action of the house. AN EMBEZZLER ESCAPES. . - Jury Could Not Agree in Case of Bank President Who Stole $40,000. Philadelphia, Feb. 16.-The jury in the case of Henry Lear, former pres? ident ot the Doylestown National Dank, charged with embezzlement ?tnd misappropriation of $40,O') of the bank's funds, disagreed this morning, after three days' unsuccessful delib? erations. Crystal, Fla., Feb 16.-The old Os? cilla House at Homassassa went up in smoke this morning about 9 o'clock. This popular hostelry has been run by Maj. Meeker for several years and the house was full of tourists when the fire occurred. All the male guests were away at the time fishing and hunting, consequently lost their trunks, valises and other belongings. One guest lost about $900. Czar Files Complaint Against Japanese On Account of Sanitary Conditions %t Port Arthur. St. Petersburg, Feb. 16.-The Rus? sian consul at Pekin complains that the Japanese are compelling the Rus? sians to leave Port Arthur without their property and that many Rus? sian sick and wounded who have been detained at Port Arthur have died be? cause of the unsanitary condition of the town. The czar has made a pro? test through France. WHOLE FAMILY POISONED. A Wholesale Murder Suspected in Cleveland, . Ohio-Investigation. Being Made. Cleveland, Ohio, Feb. 15.-Charles Heller, aged 50, his wife, Josephine, aged 48, their daughter, Mary Nolan, aged 29, and the latter's husband, George Noland, were found dead in the Heller home on Central aveftue here this morning. It is supposed they were asphyxiated by natural gas, but the police suspect poisoning and are investigating the case. Coroner Seiglein, after his investi? gation, said that he believed the deaths were due to poisoning. It is understood that there has, been do? mestic trouble in the family. HANGED UNDER DIFFICULTIES. Rope Broke When Trap Was Sprung on New Jersey Wife Murderer. Bridgeton, N. J., Feb. 15.-Frank Raysinger, who confessed to the mur? der of his wife on Octoberr 18th last, was hanged at 9:43 o'clock this morn? ing. The hanging was unsuccessful, the rope having broke. Six people grabbed the body and held it until it was presumed he was dead. He mounted the scaffold with a steady step. When the sheriff pulled the lever his body dropped with a crash, breaking the rope, the body re? bounding and his head striking on the cross beam of the scaffold. The spec? tators were horrified. Death was be? lieved to be instantaneous, however, an examination indicating that his neck was broken by the fall. Four men ran up to the scaffold, grabbed the rope at the open trap.
