The case was origin? ally brought in the United States Dis? trict Court here, but nuder a special Act of Congress was taken at once to tha "Court of Appeals; which Court wai to expedite the hearing and de? cision of the case in every manner pos? sible. The taking of testimony in this tsfcy and in New York lasted for sever? al weeks and |he, arguments in St :Lonis before Circuit Judges Caldwell, Sanborn,. Thayer and Ven Deventer took several days. The decision of rice Court was written by Judge Thay? er and was filed in this city, where the original action was instituted. An appeal to the United States Supreme Court will be taken immediately. Money is Now Being Used by Macedonian Rebels. Spencer Eddy, secretary of the Uni? ted States legation at Constantinople, has arrived in Washington on leave from his post, and paid his respects to Secretary Hay and Assistant Secretary Loomis. Mr. Eddy was one of the fore? most of onr officials in the effort to succor Miss Stone, and it was in large part due to his energy that the mis? sionary was ransomed. The money paid to the captors, however, has gone towards supplying firearms and am? munition to the Macedonians who are in revolution against the Turkish government, and that is one reason ior che present activity in Turkey. Dictionary for the Blind. The Maryland School for the Blind has just given to the world what is said to be the first dictionary ever printed inv point type. The work, a replica in point type of Funk & Wagnalls' "Intermediate School Dic? tionary," is in eighteen volumes, and contains about 38.000 words. The only English dictionary for the blind pre? viously in existence, it is said, was an old one containing only a - few hundred selected words, and not print? ed in the point type. The staff of the school has spent two years; under the direction of Messrs. F. D. Morrison and M. E. Raddick, in arranging the work for the press. The book is printed from brass plates, the impressions of dots forming the letters being stamped in the plates. Applications for the dictionary have been received from institutions for the blind all over the country.-Baltimore Sun. Telephone Gossip. The increase in the capital stock of the American Telegraph and Tele? phone company from $150,000,000 to $250,000,000 has revived gossip of the consolidation of the Bell telephone and the Gould telegraph properties. Western Union people deny the trnth of the reports, but the Bell people rather encourage speculation along this line by their evasive replies to in? quiries.' Mr. Gould this week formal? ly turned over the Manhattan Elevated Railway company to Mr, August Bel? mont, of the Interborough company (Subway), and it is commonly believed that as soon as he can do so he will "fund" Western Union, thus leaving him free to carry cut his ambitious plans for railroad extension in connec? tion with Missouri Pacific and Wabash.
