Greenville, Oct. 14i-Ex-Solicitor M. F. Ansel has announced that he will become a candidate for governor next year in the Democratic primary. Mr. Ansel was born in Charleston but was raised in Walhalla and has been living in Greenville for 25 years. He was elected from this county for three successive terms to the legisla? ture, leading the primary each time and was then elected solicitor of the crircuit in 1888, from which office he voluntarily retired after twelve years of efficient service. Habana, Oct. 14.-The indictments in the postoffice fraud cases have been sent by the fiscal to the audiencia, but have not yet been made public. It is known, however, that the fiscal has asked that C. F. W. Neely, Estes G. Rathbone and W. H. Reeves, the indicted officials, be sentenced to im? prisonment for terms ranging from 24 to 36 years. Each of the accused men is charged with from 15 to 18 offenses. The counsel for the defense have 20 days in which to file answer to the indictments. The negro desperado Jones of Madi? son, Fla., has killed three people and has been moved to Tallahassee to pre? vent lynching. An attempt was made on Monday night to shut down the electric light plant in Georgetown in order to rob the town. Cresceus Trots For Charity. Toledo, 0., Oct. IL-Crescens this afternoon lowered the world's trotting record on a half-mile track one-quar? ter of a second. The record was pre? viously held by himself having been made cm the Toledo track one year ago. It was 2.09%. He trotted this afternoon for the benefit of the charitable institutions of the city and more than 40,000 peo? ple gathered to see him. This is the home of George Ketcham, the owner and trainer and driver, and last spring before starting on the circuit Mr. Ketcham in a letter to Mayor Jones announced that he would.give an ex? hibition trot on the Toleao, track for the benefit of all Toledo's* charitable institutions.
