Tonight when the congressmen were
hurrying their inquiries to a termina
tion, the * cadets of all four classes
held a meeting in Grant ball and
unanimously decided to abandon
exercising and hazing of every form
as well as the ptactice of calling out
fourth class men This is exactly
what Gen Dick and the other mem
bers of tbe committee have been try?
ing to impress on the cadets who
have testified before them, as the
only course open to them if they de
stred to see tbe fair name of the
United 8tates Military academy un?
sullied and above reproach.

back from Washington this morning

the manner in which tbe system of
hazing as prncticed at the military
academy is regarded by tbe people
of the United States, we, the cadets
of the* United States Military acad
emy, while maintaining tbat we have
pursued our system from the best
motives, yet realizing that the deli
berate judgment of the people should,
in a country like ours, bo above all
other considerations, do reaffirm our
former action abolishing tbe exer
cising of fourth claes men, and do
further atrree to discontinue hazing,
the requiring of fourth class men to
eat anything against their desire and
the practice of "oiling out" fourth
class men by class sciion, and that
we will not devise other similar prac
lioes to replace those abandoned.
