The dispensary an thorities have taken the matter op and one of the inspectors will be sent to Kiogstree at ooee to make a thorough investigation aod report the facts. The dispensary was ordered closed forthwith. The dispenser is F. M. Player. Nooe of the circumstances are yet known at this end of the lina. Player had be?n "?efcrup" and relieved of over j $l,8o0 ia cash just before daylight this morning. . Mr. Player, it appears, had related foll particulars to Mr. R R Stutts, town marshal. Mr. Stotts says he and Mr. Lemon were in the dispen earx^ast nigbt with Mr. Player until '"^^ear?y midnight, counting np Mon day's sales of liquor: that he went to bed about -midnight, and was arous? ed by Mr Piayer about 5 o'clock this morning, who stated that he bad been robbed, oed gave the following particulars : Player stated that he beard some ono calling him from cha outside, at the back door of fbe dispensary ; that be opened the door and was im mediately covered by two guns, in j the bands of masked men, who de? manded nts money or bis life, and, beir.? unarmed and unprepared for any *=uch emergency, be was power? less, and offered no resistance, simply saying: "Geotleoens. Mr St?hs says that he is confident that be knows the fear men who robbed (he dispensan; that be bas DO proof, bot that one of them wore a peculiar kiod of mackintosh coat that gave*him dead away. If this wholesale robbery bo allowed to pass unnoticed as bas been done in tbe case of every other robbory con? nected with the dispensary here, the people will vote to pot it ont of town The graded school ts aimost wholly mo by the profits of the dispensary at this place, and if the town were to lose this money it woold canse the school to be closed one year or longer. Capt W. H. Kennedy, mayor of Kingstree, bas tried time after time to get Mr Player to deposit the dispensary money, as (he law requires, once a week, with the county (restorer, bot without avail, as it seems that he de? posited wheo he pleased Major Ken? nedy farther states that he appealed to Mr Brittoo, who is manager for the board, to help him to get Player to de? posit the money, but was given no sat- i isfaetion. The ooonty treasurer, R. D Rollins, states that he also advised Mr. Player to be more regular in de? positing money. Mr Player bad de posited only $285 daring the month of December It js not known how much the sbortago will aggregate, probably $1,800 or may be as much as $3,000 Player has been dispenser about a year and in that time has had three robberies, the last time being a com? plete cleaning up Every dispenser who has been coonnected with it here has been robbed. Gov McSweeney ts appealed to to offer a .reward for the apprehension of the guilty parties. G S. B. IcspecSor Stansell arrived here tonight and will endeavor to put the officers on tho track of the robbers. Mr Stutts claims tba: he beard burglars leaving town and not yet ao officer or any one else has raised a finger toward making an effort to catch them Mr Stutts, the day before the robbery, roid Mr Player that thip very thing might happen. It is rumored on the streets tonight that the shortage will exoed $3,000, but as I said last night no one knows what it is, and will not know until the inspectors make it kcowo. G. S. In taot everything is done for the diversion and enjoyment of these unfortunates HESTER'S LETTER. ; New Orleans, Dec 28 -Secretary Hester's weekly New Orleans Cotton Exchange statement 6hows for the 28 days of December an increase over last year of 308,000 For the 119 days of the season that have elffpsed the aggregate is ahead of the last year 608,000 ! The amount brought into sight dur ing the past week has been 339,650, against 255,398 for the seven days ending this date last year : and for the 28 days of December it has been 1.611,696, against 1 302,742 last year. These make the total movement of the 119 days of the season, from Sep? tember 1 to date, 6,430,847 against 5,822,402 last year. The movement since September 1 shows receipts at all United States ports 4,469,664, against 3,905,353 last year ; overland across the Mis sissippi,. Ohio and Potomac rivers to northern mills and Canada, 665, 104, against 807.105 last year ; interior stocks in excess of those held at the end of the commercial year 724 523, against 326,489 last year ; soothern mill takings 571.556, against 583,455 last year ; foreign exports for the week have been 182, 876, making the total thus far for the season 3,129,605, against 2,500,887 last year Northern mill takings and Canada during the past seven days show a decrease of 17,050 as compared with the corresponding period of last year, and their total takings since Sept I, have decreased 350,892.
