A sad occurrence happened at Elliott on
vesterdav about noon The smaller children
of Mra. and Mr. Jobc H. Skinner were amus?
ing themselves in tbe back yard. Mr S was
absent and Mrs 8. wkb in the front yard
when she beard screams and rushed to her
children only to find her 6 year old daughter
enveloped in flames caught from a small fire
in tbe yard Mrs S wrapped her own dress
about the child and wae severely burred in
ber motherly efforts to subdue tbe fltmes.
Two others of tbe children were also burned
somewhat in trying to aave their eiater but
all to no avail Tbe little one lingered in
repeated convulsions for 11 hours and died

pearance of the streets is mopb improved. A
few more new bridges are very much needed,
and should be built before any damage results

First killing frost of the seasos occurred
on the 9th when thin ice also formed io fa*
vorable places. There was not touch frost on
account of the high wind, bot on the next
morning there was eery heavy white frost.
Examination of the raio gunge on 33d
showed that there had beeo a deposition of
moisture by dense fog on the mornicg of the
22d and by very heavy dew on the 33d to
the amount of .03, three bondredths of an
inch. Moderate frosts on the 17tb, 26.b,
