Coast Line Company is makiog wonder*
ful improvements in its properties from
Qaaotico to Charleston, Augusta and
Colombia. Within the past year it
has,completed its cotiro main line
tracks with 90-pound stael rails. It
has built many new freight and passen?
ger depots and has made large additious
to its officers' headquarters Tbe
several sbops have been consolidated
and the capacity of those io service
tripled Thousands of dollars have
been put in new machinery in the shops
The system has decided that tbe oid,
dilapidated, du.-ty ooaohes and the
little old wood-burner engines, so long
in service, must bo relegated or shipped
away to notuo little ooe horse tram road
or for saw mill purposes and be
replaced by the up to date, modern aod
comfortable veetibuled ooaches, hand
somoly upholstered, lighted by electri
oity and heated by steam. The great
monster locomotive of today will
replace tbe tiny wood burners that have
been pulling a "shoo fly" passenger
and a doiao box oars oo a freight train.

Richmond Locomotive Works for ten of

194 26 inch cylinders, 03-inch driving

The tanks are of 4,000 gallo?, oapaoity

engine pulliog a heavy train for fifty

Coast Line people sre now having built

in the Pullman Works, at Pullman,

The second State primary election
has been 'held and the returns have
come in more completely than on any
preceding occasion of the kind. The
returns received by the State this
morning account for a total vote of
upwards of 63,000 There will
hardly be from 10,000 to 12,000 more
votes to be reported The returns
were sent in promptly from most of
the counties, and by 1 o'clock prac?
tically everything that was received
WM in. It was rather a difficult un?
dertaking to get the returns in
shipshape so that they could be given
to the public this morning.
As a result of the election Gov
McSweeney continues in the office
of governor for the next two yearB.
He has received 34,921 votes against
27,412 for Col Iloyt, his majority
being 7,509.
In the race for lieutenant governor
Col 81oan has been beateu by Col
Tillman, the former's vote being
28,090 against the Jatter's 33,974, the
majority being n,874 on present
figures
For railroad commissioner the vote
was 33,880 for Wharlon and 27,634
for Evans, tbe majority being 6,236.
Chairman Evans is undoubtedly
beaten.
In the Sixth congressional district
Congressman Norton has been
