Tbe County Board of Commission ers met
yesterday with ?II members present except

The minutes of the extra meeting hsld on
May 16th were read and confirmed.

The Institute Commencement
The annual commencement exercises cf the
Sumter Institute were inaugurated Sunday
night.
Rev. G. M Richards preached tbe(baccalau
rests sermon io tbe Presbyterian Church, but
owing to therein there was oot ss large a
congregation present as usually attends Mr
Richards preached a eermoo tbat was not
only appropriate to the occasion, bnt one full
of thought and religious inspiration aod
forcibly and eloquently delivered.
The Institute Recital.
The recital Mooday night In the Institute
hall by the pupils in tbs music and elocution
daises was attended by a crowd tbat filled
the hall to tbe doors, aod the spontaneous
applaesa that wss so lihsrally accorded the
fair young performers was but a slight indi?
cation of the pleasure and real enjoyment of
tbe audience. Tbs programme wss arranged
to eotertaio tbe audience and also to show
the improvement made by tbe pupils and the
proficiency they bavs attained under the
careful tuition of the accomplished teachers
who have charge of tbs musio and elocution
olssses. Tbe programme was quite lengthy,
bot none too long for a large majority, for
