RAISING BROOMCORN.
Clemaoo College, April 13.?There
seems to be a great deal of interest
iuat now in broomcorn. Col Newman
receives lettera daily, aakicg for
directions for planting, harvesting
and curing the orop. This corres?
pondent naked Col Newman if broom
oorn ie an important crop, to which
he replied : "It furnishes the world
with brooms." If tbe supply of
brooms is increased, tbe world will
be cleaner and biigbter and the peo?
ple happier and healthier. Here are
tbe leading points as to broomcorn
raising, ae given by4 Col Newman :
Tbe plant is a uon saccharine sor?
ghum The preparation, planting
and cultivation are in general the
ssme as tbat neceeeary for raieing
sorghum for syrup On thoroughly
prepared land, plant from two to five
quarts per sere In Ohio and New
York one bushel of seed will plsot
about 15 acres, but here a bushel will
plant 12 acres
The cultivation is easy. Tbe land
ahould be well fertilized, and the
seed put in rather shallow. Tbe
cultivation is like tbat for corn or
sorghum. It should be kept clean,
and should have shallow cultivation
after each rain in order to keep a
good noil mulch.

price depends chiefly on these two

with tbe greatest elasticity and tbe
proper green color, the brush ehould
