Killed on the Railroad.
His relatives io this county received a tele?
gram about the middle of last week that Mr
Samuel Bradley, a deaf mote and printer,
was killed at Burliugton, Iowa, by being ac?
cidentally run over by a traio. He was at
the time on bis way to bis brother, Rev.
Robt. Bradley, Jr., who lives at West Liber?
ty, Iowa.
The deceased was a eon of Rev. Robert
Bradley, of Kershaw, and a nephew of the
late Col. Jno. S. Bradley, of Bishcpville.
Dropped Dead.
Ned Thomas, a well known colored man of
Bisbopville, dropped dead last Sunday while
dressing for church. He was about 50 or 60
yeats old, and was well thought cf by the
people of Bisbopville.
Burned to Death.
Coroner Moses held an icqcest Friday night
at Tindals upon the body of Carolice Hamp?
ton, an old ccictel woman, about 70 years
old, who was burned to death yesterday
morning
The facts obtained at tbe inquest were that
she lived by herself io preference to staying
with ber relations. She had been sick for
ssveral days, and ber granddaughter looked
after ber, going to the boase occasionally.
She carried breakfast to tbe old woman in
the morning and left her before the fire in ber
boase On going beck about ll o'clock tbe
old woman was found dead and ber clotbiog
burned ofi her body. It was supposed that a
coal popped out from the fire, or she dropped
fire from her pipe on her bed.
The verdict of the ir quest was that she
came to her death by being burnt while lying
before the fire, and that DO one was responsi?
ble for ber death.
How she wa3 burned to death and the
bouse not set on fire, was a little singular.
Added to the horror of the occurrence, dogs
bH? gotten to the body and toro and devour?
ed a part of it before the inquest was oeld.

that, although he nad been out of the militia
tor many years he bad never ceased to take a
deep interest in military affairs, aod now that
he was once again in ac'ive service he would
spare no effort to keep the company up to its
high standard.
Capt. Wilson was for many years an active
and faithful member of the old Sumter Light
Injaotry and rose from the ranks to be its
commanding officer. During bis captaincy
the o?d con?p8ny was as prosperous and effi?
cient and well drilled as it ever w?a, acd
wben be resigned tbe company was at its
best, lt was on account of his fine record in
the old company that Capt. Wilson was
called to the captaincy of the compaoy and
the choice is generally regarded as a wise one.
Lieutenants Fisbburne and Doar are well
drilled men and have a thorough knowledge
of military affairs. Lieat Fisbourne is a
graduate of the Citadel, and Lieut Doar of
Porter's Academy
The company has become firmly establish?
ed and the newly elected officers will carry
on the good work of their predecessors.
There is every re ison to believe that Sumter
will in the future, as in the past, have one of
the crack military companies of the ?State,
and the people of the city should lose no
opportunity to assist the officers and mem?
bers in miintaining tbe company.
