Hagood, Dec 19 ?A serious accident bap
p"t>ed at tbe State farm last Saturday after
ooon While the weeks' ration was being
ground on tbe grist mill one of tbe rocks
hurts The mill was completely wrecked and
pieces of tbe rock were burled in every direc?
tion, doing great damage to tbe build?
ing. Two coovictB were present at tbe time,
ooe of whom was seriously if rot fatally
wounded Ooe of his arms was broken and
bis shoulder badly crushed. Tbe other fared
a little better, though he was badly wounded
by a piece of timber or rock striking bim io
tbe stomach. It was a miracle tbat both of
tbem were not instantly kniet.
Dr. Boll's Cough Syrup is tbe best remedy
for all bronchial affections. It is a great
mistake to allow a cough or cold tc rou on ;
for it may develop serious throat nr loog
trouble. Take Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup at
ooce.
Sometime between tbe close of business
Saturday night aod tbe opening of Hogan's
meat market Monday morning tbe safe was
opeoed, tbe money vault forced opto aod
$60 85 in cash and about $190 io receipts
stoleo. Tbe outer door of tbe safe was not
broken or disfigured io tbe s'iigbest degree,
but tbe comhioation was unlocked and
relocked after tbe cash vault was removed
Tbe cash vault was forced witb an old chisel,
which was found Dear by, aod tbe wool
work around tbe draw was considerably
brokeo and mutilated io doing so Tbe cash
vault was found tbia morning io tbe lot io
the rear of tbe meat market where it bad
been taken, apparently, to be broken open
It is thought by Mr. Hogan tbat an entrance
was effected through tbe back door, there
being a slit in tbe wire of tbe screen door
just above tbe lock Nothing io tbe market
except tbe safe was disturbed aod tbe robbery
was not discovered until tbe safe was opened
Mr. Hogao was io the market 8unday for i
few mioutes and although he noticed nothing
wroog it is possible tbat tbe robbery may
bave occurred oo Satorday oigbt, for unless
be bad opened tbe safe and discovering tbe
loss began an investigation it is not probable
tbat be would bave observed tbat tbe wire in
the door had been cot.
Altogether tbe robbery is a most mysterious
t flair aod tbere is no clue tbat tbe police can
take up in tbe effort to apprehend the bar
glar. The fact tbat tbe combination was
worked, tbe Bile opeoed and relocked, 19 a
circumstance tbat is almost inexplicable and
appears to indicate that either some one had
learned the combination or an expert safe
cracker did the work.

Tbe walls are green,
Red,.white aod blue,
Tbe music is sweet
Aod so are you.
That is what ot.e of the young soldiers said
to his fair partner last Thursday night, and
tbat about summed ud the situation. The
armory itself looked like a corner from fairv
land?American fairy land, for tbe national
colors were every where?red, white and blue.
Where there were not flags, there was hunt?
ing, nod twining in and out of everything
was the green smilax.
Tbe decorating of the hall was under the
charge of Misses Moise, Manning and Cooke,
who bad volunteered th*ir time and labor to
the company for the occasion. Under their
skillful hands, and directed by tbeir nimble
and fertile wits tbe bare hall was soon trans?
formed to a bower of beauty. Bick of ths
music stsnd a large United States flag was
draped between ihe two windows. In the
folds of the flag waa pinned a shield and
agle Smilax descended on each side and
was gathered under tbd flag. Over each
window io tbe back was more smilax, while
imall flags were crossed above Tbe music
iitand in tbe rear of tbe ball was carpeted in
ed and draped witb bunting, with which
tbe steps were covered Reside the stand on
nitber band wae a stack of arms, and above
tbe b.iyooets from the muzzle of the guns
waved tbe colors. Smilax twined over the
arms, midway in tbe hall being the eld S. L
1. Coofedrate flag showing its wounds aod
tsars Bunting was drawn the entire length
of tbe oortb wall aod was gathered at each
window aod column. Above each window
aod 00 each paoel betweeo flags were crossed
and at each intersection was a bun h of
smilax Over tbe opposite wall loog vines
of smilax was most effect vely trailed, while
groups of flags relieved witb color tbe white
aad green.
Bat the moat striking niece of decoration
it. the whole of the armory was the wall to
the left of tbe entrance floor. Here Capt
Lie bad worked out a design in flags and
snilax which was most favorably commented
011 by all.
Across tbe ceiling forming diamonds and
triangles ran the bunting, falling to tbe floor
in each corner io a graceful fold. Even bere
however, the tireless workers did not cease,
for tbe seats aod the water table were all
wrapped and garnished with color. The
ovoer of tbe water cooler objected to its
being punctured witb a tack, so at last the
decorations came to an end.
But tbe daoce itself 7 Tbat of course could
not be otherwise thao a success Miogling
with tbe usual dainty dresses of the maidens
and the grave black of tbe men was tbe
brighter blue of tbe uniforms, with tbe gold
of tbe officers and tbe white strips of tbe
"non-coms " Tbose of the company who
were detailed witb tbe baod furnished the
strains to ..hieb all kept time, and tbe daoce
muaic of tbe Fourth Regiment Band was
pronounced a great success, the time especial?
ly being perfect. About 25 couples and
many more stags enjoyed daoce after dance
until the supper was served, and after tbat
Lieut Burgess' whistle kept the german
going until after 3 when the order to retreat
was sounded, aod the forces retired la good
order
The supper, under the direction of Messrs.
Hood and Auld, was quite excellent and well
served. It consisted of turkey with cran?
berry, ham, thin bread and butler, olives,
salad, pickles, coffee and fruit
E"ery ooe ia thoroughly sati?fi?d wilh last
