It is reported that the line of the North
western Railroad will be resurveyed from
Providence to Camden and that tbe road will
probably pass through the Bradford Springs
and Spring Hill section If this report
proves true and the road goes to Spring Hill
the road will be of moch greater benefit to
tbe county than if it is built on tbe line first
surveyed through tbe Raftiog Creek section.
Tbe Spring Hill country is now without
railroad facilities, while the Rafting Creek
section is within easy reach of the Camden

There has been a great deal cf complaint
recently of tbe disturbance created nightly at
the colored church on Council Street. No
one would complain it the meetings were not

12 or 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning disturb
the entire neighborhood, and the meeting is
becoming a nuisance.

j At the call of the Major, City Council met
j a: 6 o'clock p. m. Wednesday, with the follow
I ing aembers present : Maror Hogbson, Al
I detraen Epperson, Hurst, Finn, Delgar, Boyle
j and Pordy.
Tbe Mayor stated that the purpose of tbe
j meeting was to consider tbe adoption of au
j ordinance exempting manufacturing eoter
i prises from taxation for a term of five years,
as permitted by the constitution of the State.
The clerk read an ordinance prepared by City
Attorney Fraser, which provices in substance
that ail property, money, capital stock, &c,
occupied by or iovested in any manufactur
ing enterprise which has for its chief bnsices3
the making or producing of articles for ship
ment to points outside of Sumter, shall be
exempted from all city taxation for five years
from its establishment.
The ordinance reserves to Council the right
to determine ia each case, whether any pro
posed business comes within the meaning of
the ordinance.
On motion of Mr. Horst the rule requiring
two readings of an ordinance was suspended
by unanimous consent, and it was adopted
witbont opposition.
Tbe law requires that this ordinance shall
be submitted to a vote of qualified electors
for ratification, and the i8tb instant was
appointed on which en election will be held
for that purpose.
A letter was read from Alderman Carson
tendering bis resignation, in consequence of
bis appointment to a lientenancy in tbe
army. An election was ordered to fill tbe
vacancy thus created, at the same time as
appointed for ratification of tbe lax exemp
tion ordinance.
Tbe Street Committee was authorized to
parchase rock to finish macadam work on
Main Street es far sooth as Levi Bros. store.

Aa the fighting seemed to hare been done

The game of ball between the Maoningand
Sumter kids Wedoesday afternoon resulted In
a tie, the score at the eod of tbe ninth inning
standing 4 to 4. The game was well played
and closely contested, although the Manning
team had only eight players on the field. If
tbere was any advantage in point of size and
weight it was in favor of the home team, and
if the Manning team was the same that took
part in the game in Manning tbe kick of the
Sumter kids does not hold good. Tbe game
