IN HIS NAME.
Charleston, S. C , Aoril 26, 1899.
On the 26:h of January, 18)8, was formed
the organization now koowa as Christlove
Mission ; the original membership was four
teen, it has now reached the fourscore mark
The Christlove Mission is woman's work
for women, its otject being to rescue from
their miserable live3 of sin and degradation
those poor unfortunates who are only wait
ing an open door to enter a respectable life.
During the year 1898, the Mission rescued six
of their erring sisters, and placed them in
positions where they are now earning an
honest livelihood.
Tbe need for a Rercoe Home io Charleston,
where these repentant ones can 6nd ebelttr,
until th*y are prepared to enter some 5eld of
industry, is so pressing, that the Mission has
determined, by the help of God, to open such
a Home however humble it may be, before
the f ll sets in. They, therefore, appeal to
the p?op!e of the St*te fer help to enable
them to carry but this project; no matter

pondent News and Courier, 2Sth.
A Word in Addition.
Mr. Editer : Ali that you bare said con
cerning the decoration of the soldiers' graves
is true; bot other things are trne beside
those yon have mentioned. For instance,
the persocs who attended in carriages and
baggies seemed to be utterly indifferent to
the fact that by taking possession of positions
just in front of the stand, they completely
obstructed the view of those who stood be
hind them. The vehicles were obstruction
enough, acd the children with garlands were
compelled to feel their way arnon;.; them cau
tiously : but the raised umbrellas were aa
added trouble, and those in the vehicles
seemed oblivious of the fact that persons in
the rear could not see through them.
Nor was this all. Some carelessly drove
across burial lots, regardless of the buried
dead, aad when the ceremonies were over, the
sight was pitiable to look upon. To this
must be added the races away from the
grounds, the inordinate anxiety of eome to
get away first, and the disregard of the sur
roundings.
It is to be hoped that in futur-} tbe com
mittee will hold things better in bard, and
refuse to admit any vehicle within the en
closure. The laying of flowers upon the
graces of the dead is sheer mockery, if while
the garlands are being placed, irreverence
prevails ; and I see no good result that caa
come from driving over the grave of one man
to put flowers on the grave of ano .ber.
