dwelling house was saved.
Bracy Dargan was arrested for setting fire
to the barn and stables of Jim Mejar, of
Providence township, on the ni^ht ot March
21st, and be will be tried for arson, the barn
being within the statutory distance of the
dwe Ung bouse.
The buming io both case3 was inspired, it
is said, by malice and if the accused are
proven gotley of the charge, they deserved to
be severely dealt with for the crimes are
most serious.

Fires.
A small outhouse on Mr Willie White's
preitises was discoveied on fire Friday after
neon. The fiie department turned out
promptly and the blaze was extinguished
with slight loss
The;e was an alarm of fire about 10 o'clock
Saturday night The department turned out
but there was no fire, fxcept a trash pile in
the v cinity of the C. S. & N. R. R.
The fire department was called out again
Sunday afternoon about 6 o'clock. A
srrall boose in the lot in rear of Bultman k
Brothers' store had caught oo fire. Damage
slight.
The bouse on Sumter Street immediately io
the rear of Herby's Stable was seton fire Mon?
day night about 9 o'clock, but it was discov?
ered before the flames gained mnch headway
and was extinguished ?with a few buckets of
water. Tbe department turned out as
promptly as usual in response to the alarm
but failed to iocate tbe fire and both Equade
ran full tilt up Liberty Street to
the Methodist Church before they were
stopped. The fire was unquestionably
the work of an iocendiary, for
there were indications of kerosene or some
other inflammable nil having been thrown
against tbe side of the bouse and then set on
fire Had the fire been started at a later hour

from spreading to Harby's stables and tbe
row of wooden buildings on Liberty Street
Once fire gets started in that neat of old frame
buildings there is going to be a fire that will
give the fire department a job that will test
