The sad intelligence of the death of Miss Mary Liles Miller, at 2 o'clock last Satur? day at ber father's home in Magnolia, was re? ceived by her friends io this city It was rad news, indeed, to many, for she was a favorite lo a large circle. While she bad been io a precarious state of health for some montos, and those who loved. her best bad resigned themselves to a realization of the fact that she could never be well again, still the end came unawares and that gentle, bright spirit was wafted across the river of death into the brightness of eternal life, where sorrow and pain are unknown. She was graduated from the Somter Insti? tu?e last Jane, and was then in tbe bloom of beaotifoi young womanhood, bright, talent? ed and the life of the circle in which she moved;, io a few short weeks she contracted a severe cold, which developed rapidly into bronchitis, followed by gallop? ing consumption. Six months ago life, a long life of o?e fulness and happiness appeared to lie before ber, and she stood oo its tbresbbold, confident in her freso >oung strength and strong in earnest hope and bright aaticipations, resting upon a serious purpose to make the most of the talents consigned to ber keeping. THE VICTORY OP THE LEE COUNTY BILI, IN THE SEN? ATE THE OCCASION. Tbe people of Bishopville, the County peat of the new County of Lee held a sort of j j b i lee Monday afternoon when the news was received that the Lee County bill had passed the Senate by an overwhelming ma? jority, thereby assuring the establishment of the new county for which they have workgd PO zealously aod waited so loo?. They got ont the cannon and kept it booming ontil everyb?dy in tbe surrounding country knew that Lee County bad woo and Bishopville would ere long be a full-fledged county seat with Coort House, j iii and a full corps of county officials. Bishopville and her people bad good reaftoo. for rejoicing, for the establish? ment of Lea County is due entirely to their exertions and the long continued and persist? ent fight they have made for the new county. Tbe creation of the new county means agreat deal to Bishopville and property owners io the immediate vicinity ; it means a period of srrowth and development for the towo, an increase in value of property ?nd an increase in ?he business of the town. There is not a finer farming county in the State than is comprised io the territory of Lee County, and it is inevit? able th-.t Bifbopvilie will now enter upon a period of substantial growth that will, io time, make it an important town.
