The Palmetto Regiment.
We have procured frora Cel. B'.andibg some
statistics of the Palmetto Regiment and of?
Campacy A (Sumter Company) which were
used in bis lecture to clases in the Graded
School ; feeling ussured that they will be of
interest to the people cf South Carolina, and
particularly so to Sumter county. From
these they can readily tell why ibe Palmetto
Regiment was so highly honored in thc re?
ports cf all the officers, from General Scott
down to General Shieds, their leader 00 the
field ofCburubusco; and thut South Caro?
linians should have honored them for sus?
taining the reputation for gallantry and dar?
ing of our forefathers, duriug tho ^Rebellion"
of the Colonies against Great Britain. And
it can hardly be gainsaid that the reputation
of that Regiment wss a great incentive to
valor and indomitable courage which South
Carolina boys exhibited on the hundred
battlefields, wberethey were engaged in ?lThe
Rebellion" of the Confederate States against
the United States.
Ic 1861 the survivors of the Palmetto Reg?
iment were doubtless reduced to a mere squad
of grey-headed Veterans and, perhaps, age,
which had stiffened the joints, had naturally
dimmed the fire which blazed on foreign
fields; but it would be interesting to know
wnat number of the few then living gave
to the State the experience acquired aeaiost
a foreign*foe, to ber service in resisting a
dometic enemy. We would be gratified if
Cai. Bianding could give some information
on this subject. We give the' statistics
which he says are very nearly, though perhaps
not exactly, correct.

Fire at Lamar.
LAMAS, April 13. - At n>ne o'clock last
night the alarm of fire was heard on every
side. It was at once'seen that the barn and
stables cf Dr. J A. Cole were on firs and i
were in a few moments in ashes. The barn !
was a large wooden building fil leo. with dry
forage which burned very rapidly. There
was also consumed about 300 bushels of corn.
50 bushel? of peas, a lot of cotton seed, etc.
The building and contents were insured for |
$500. which will oniy partly cover the loss.
The origin of the fire is thought to have been
