Riach, of tbe At? lantic Coast Line, returned to tbe city yes? terday from a trip over the Coast Line's new / branch, the Manchester and Augusta Rail? road, recently *" completed' from Rimini, Clarendon County, S. C., to Denmark, at the i jonction of t e Augusta division of the ! South Carolina Railway and th? South j Bound Railroad, in Barnwell County, S. C. They left here a few days ago, and on Wednesday last, in company with the South Carolina Railroad commission, made a tour of inspection over tbe new road. The inspection proved very satisfactory in all particulars, and accordingly the new. line will be opened np for traffic on Wednesday, August 1st. The Manchester and Augusta Railroad, as completed, embraces sixty-three and a half miles of track? -inclcidiag nineteen miles completed in 1888 ?om Samter to Rimini on the Santee River. Toat portion jost built from Ria?ni to Denmark is forty-four and a half miles in length, and TODS through a magnificent con?try thai Is already well settled and largely developed. It is a particularly fin? agricultural region, and we are informed that the crops along the new line are -simply splendid. The country is also well timbered and well watered, and is one of. the richest cotton districts on the Sooth Atlantic, besides being admirably adapted to ether crops and abounding in the resources so peculiar to this favored part of the Sooth. The track of tbe new road is laid with 70-pound steel rails and the rivers and waterways over which it crosses are spanned with splendid steel bridges of the most approved make. The principal streams crossed are the Santee and the North and Sooth Edisto rivers, while there are numerous smaller stream* along the line. The principal towns connected by the Manchester and Angosta are Sumter, which contains a population of 5.350, Rimini with 550, Orangeburg with 5,000 and Denmark with 500. The road traverses portions of Sumter, Clarendon, Oraogeburg and Barn? well counties, aad at the city of Sumter it is in junction with the other roads of the Coast Line ramifying io all directions traversed by the system. At Denmark it forms a jonctioo with the Sou rb Bound Railroad ronning.ro Savannah and'Florida ?nd with the Sooth Carolina Railway running from Charleston to -Angosta and there making connections Sooth and West.
