Farm came near losing a team of fine mules;

The water was deep enough to swim the
tinnies and- no damage was done save to tbe
wagon. One of the mules was "Baby Ruth,''

Two Negroes Fooling With a Gan.
Martin Kendrick and -Coben,-two
negroes of the Rafting.Creek neighborhood,
ware shooting at a mark with a Winchester
rifle on last Friday, and*aftera^ time, being in

While the fun waa going on the rifle was
discharged making a clean bole through
Kendricks' thigh a few incbes below the trunk
The bullet passed between the bone and artery
and the wound is a dangerous one though ' '
not necessarily fatal. The shooting was en
tirely accidental, the negroes being brothers
in-law.
A Big Lumber Fire.
The large lumber mill of Rankin k Bridges,
at Atkins, on the Coa?t Line was destroyed j

oa last Saturday night. The fire origil
nated from the slab pit, and as there was con?
siderable wind blowing, it spread rapidly

Mr. Mills, in obedience of a mandate of
Harmony Presbytery, deolared the pulpit
vacant. He gave us some wholesome and
well timed advice.

Forest fires are quite common in this sec
tion.
The outlook for" planting cotton is quite
