PROSPECTUS.
THE "WORLD-BUDGET COMPANY re
spectfully announces tonhe- people of
Charleston and South Carolina thatiis daily
and weekly newspaper publications will be
issued-under -the company's sole ownership
and cnntrol from tbis date.
Having arranged for.ab?e editorial manage^
ment,.the aim and purpose of The World-Bud
gd Company will be not o-aly to present tJie
latest n?ws from all parts of the earth, but to
render public service by r?J?r. impartial criti
cism of matters of .public interest, con
deming the wrong and asserting and defend
ing the right.
For many years a second morning news
paper has been needed in Charleston; Its in
telligent populace desired lhat boih sides of.
every important question should *be fairly
considered and the opportunity of candid ex
pression be freely given on all public tepics,
so that the people might be emancipated
from the mischievous supremacy of a single
morning publication that is liable, and very
apt, to suppress all views at variance with its
narrow or selfish policy. *
Telegraphic and local news of importance
will be found-in both The World and' Budget
raore?fu!ly reported than in any other news
paper issued in this city or State.
Our papers will maintain that the p?sent
national tariff^ founded upon necessity for rev
enue which no longer exists, should be revised '
upon a basis of fair trade, thus giving pro
tection to industries that need protection, to
the extent that American labor shall not be
crippled or brought into rivalry with cheap
for-oign labor
In gcueral politics, the newspapers issued
by The World-Budget Company will be
strictly in accord with the patriotic tenenS of
the Democratic party of South Caroliua, and
the whole country. Having no friends to
conciliate, or enemies to punish, the business
and editorial aims of The World and Budget
will be to use every proper infiuence in foster
ing and augmenting the best interests of this-,
city and the state.
With these honesty straightforward decla
rations, we solicit the active support of a
home constituency which Is largely interested
in the establishment of progressive, sharply
?dited journals that sre Conducted for the
benefit of the people of Charleston and South
Carolina, and .the maintenance of the public
welfare.
We shall always seek to faithfully serve
the people, for Jheir.discrimination and moral
lupport will prove tbat'it is not news alone;
lor business enterprise, nor even - literary
ibili-ty, that makes success in the oewspsper
sotld. It is the recognition by the. people of
tn'?arnest desire to serve^bem in thecrcation
&Amoral force that shall tend to the corre?
ipn of abuses and ?he refor?'^^govern
aental administrations. .-./'' ^S^"
