Gossip from Providence.
PROVID?NCZ, S. C., April 16, 1886.
King cotton is engaging the attention of
our people at present. Most of the farmers
are making thorough preparation for a big
crop despite the low prices of future sales.
What Can be done to get ns out of the mts of
a ruinous habit?
I fail to see why Mr. B. B. Tillman should
be so severely criticised for his free speech re?
garding matters which are of so deep interest
to the majority of our people. Must a man
be muzzled because he is-a farmer? We are
all thankful to the Watchman and Southron
for its earnest advocacy in the past, of all
measures calculated to promote the interest of
the farmer, and we ask and expect the same
good work in the future, for all other busi?
ness depends to a great degree for success
upon the work of the farmer.
(Our friend may be sure that no movement
which commends itself to our judgment as
advantageous to the farmers will fail to re?
ceive onr co-operation. We know full well
1 that the farmer is the mud sill upon which the
prosperity of the State is built, and as be
prospers so will other callings. Ed.)

We would like to say just a word or two about the nicely fitting and durable PATENT
ELASTIC-SEAM DRAWERS that we are handling this Spring and Summer. You cannot get
them anywhere else in Town; so don't forget to look at them when you want anything in that
line.
IN THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT, we have an excellent assortment in all colors of BERLW,
LISLE THREAD, and ALEXANDER KIDS.
We cannot do justice to our beautiful line of NECKWEAR, so will just invite yon to call
and pass your judgment on it. If we haven't got the prettiest Scarfe, Four-in-hand Ties, Bows,
&c, ever seen in Sumter, then we will admit that we have no taste in that direction.
If you want a.pair of SUSPENDERS, BRACES, SLEEVE and CUFF SUPPORTERS^ or
BOSTON GARTERS, we can suit you in price and quality.
When you Avant an UMBRELLA, either Silk, Mohair or Gingham, look at our selection
before investing in one elsewhere.
WHATEVER MISTAKES YOU MAKE, don't make the unpardonable one of not buying
your COLLARS and CUFFS from us. We have all the latest and most popular styles in Standing
and Turn-down Collars, Linen and Celluloid Cuffs.
AGAIN WE SAY, Gome and be convinced that we have made no misrepresentations.
Very truly yours,
