One thousand dollars was the sum actually
paid by a well-to-do gentleman in Montreal,
Canada, for a reproduction at that place of :
the play, "Only a Farmer's Daughter." For
that night he extended invitations to his
friends in general.

Dr. Millard's Lectures.
The lectures delivered last week by Rev.
; Arthur Millard were very interesting. The
audience was fairly good each night, and, ex?
cepting some of the little folks who were not
well read up in history and biography, were
highly entertained. Dr. Millard is no orator.
He is too abrupt in his gestures and restless
in bis movements for that, but he shows such
complete mastery of all the details of his sub?
ject and is so interested himself that his audi?
ence are completely carried away with his
rapid flow of terse and vigorous English.
We suppose that in his lectures on Sir
Walter Scott and Mary Stuart he told nothing
bot what every intelligent person in the
audience already knew, but be presented all
these facts in such a way that they stood out
clear and distinct before the bearer like a well
arranged and clearly defined picture ; the
only criticism being the habit on the part of
the lecturer of straying off from his subject
too far and remaining away too long. His
lecture on Sir Thomas More's Utopia was
thought by many to have been the best of the
three, but it also was marred by the same
fault. His peroration ID that lecture was
sublime, sud Sumter is v. iser and better for
the visit of the large-hearted, talented and
genial Englishman to our town.

An End to Bone Scraping.
Edward Shepherd, of Harrisburg, 111., says:
"Having receired so much benefit from Elec?
tric Bitters, I feel it my duty to let suffering
humanity know it. Have had a running sore
on my leg for eight years ; my doctors told
me I wonld have to have the bone scraped or
the leg amputated. I used, instead, three
bottles of Electric Bitters and seven boxes
Bucklen's Arnica Salve, and my leg is now
sound and well." Electric Eitters are sold
at fifty cents a bottle, and Bucklen's Arnica
Salve at 25c. per box, by Dr. DeLorme. 5

Piles are frequently preceded by a sense of
weight in the back, loins and lower part of
the abdomen, causing the patient to suppose
he bas some affection of the kidneys or neigh?
boring organs. At times, symptoms of indi?
gestion are present, flatulency, uneasiness of
the stomach, etc. A moisture, like perspira?
tion, producing a very disagreeable itching,
after getting warm, is a common attendant.
Blind, Bleeding and Itching Piles yield al
