Nut Grass,
M. A.C., in Southern Cultivator, \
says : *I notice maoy inquiring how to j
"kni nat grass. I have destroyed it on
my farm by plowing it in June, * July
and August, when the ground is dry.
If it is thick and matted ruu a scooter
plow through. Cross plow with a
. ?weep. In five or six days plow again
' with a sweep and the hot sun will kill
it. I ase a sweep because it leaves
moro soil and grass exposed to the heat ;
v. perhaps any other plow would do as
well. I state the kind of plows 1 have
used, and found that three ptowings in?
variably killed it all in a week. The
_ - ground most be dry, and the weather
? not to accomplish it.
The above is worth knowing to farm

We are rather incredulous of the
above statement so far as permanent
eradication of nut grass is concerned.
Such treatment will donbtbless kill the
_ -growing plants, but what of the nuts or
: robers that have been constantly form
* ing in the ground? These will not
come np while the ground is perfectly
?ry and especially if they have been
: .Heft cn the Surface, but as soon as it

tion*. The writer has had some little
-experience with nut grass and found
that it was not so easily disposed of
The infested spot was in one end of au
asparagus bed and apparently sprang
from only one or two of the nuts that
. had bee0 brought with the asparagus
roots from a certain nursery. It occu?
pied only a circular space of about three
feet in diameter. With our own hands,
with a ioog grabbling hoe, this little
spot was deeply dug and the roots, nuts
and stems carefully picked out from the
soil and bunted leith fire. This was
done as often as a sprig of nut grass
appeared-repeatedly for two summer*
in succession. We thought success had
crowned our efforts at extermination,
, and leaving the farm that fall, did uot
visit it again until the expiration of a
twelvemonth, when it was found that
tbe nat grass bad sprang up, here and
there, over most of the garden.

A. C. will subdue the grass so that the
ground* may be cultivated in other

'She lives away out, along with a
daughter. Many's thc dollars Bill has

nickel out of our own pockets, and
when the car isn't too full we have a
minute's chat with her. She likes us
