C. A. Stately preached from the text :'Who are God's wit ; nesses?' He prefaced his discourse by saying that : 'No one will deny the existence of God. 'The Heavens . declare the glory of God; the firmament sbeweih His handiwork. Day unto r;-?ay ntterelh speech ; and nigM unto night sbewcth knowledge.' 'Heaven, ' Earth, Nature, and Revelation are God's witnesses.' 'But there is anoth 1- er witness : Jesus Christ the oul\ be gotten Son of God, itt taking upon himself the form of sinful man, willi alf of our infirmities, yet with? out sin j, and iu His death on Calvary bore testimony to the un? bounded love of God. His death is the only basis upon which a dying soul can meet au angry God.' 'There ia yet another witness: The Holy .Spirit working in the hearts c " v?en and reconciling them to God.' 'And | Christians are God's witnesses.' ! There arc four conditions which a good witness-must fulfil: 1st. Her must know something about the case. To pat up one who knows nothing apoot the case is extreme folly. 2nd. How much does he know ? Iiis testi? mony is important in proportion to his knowledge. 3rd. Where did he ^ get his information ? it must not be . hear say or from a third party, he ' tnost oe an eye-witness, and 4th. Is be reliable** Does his testimony bear cross-examination ? will it agree with ir? life ont of the witness box ? If he, in the witness box, testifies for God, Add outside, joins hands with the devil, be is doing God injury.' *There are three ways of testifying : ? 1st, By speaking ; 2nd, By writing ; 3rd,' tty acting. But all cannot apeak, then possibly they can write. John Bunyan was shut up in Bedford jail for 12 years, he was not permit? ted to preach ; but he dreamed, and the result was that he wrote the Pil? grim's Progress, a book that has been second only to the Bible in the promotion of Christ's cause, and that will continue to do good until the j end of time. 'But there are those j who can neither preach nor write ; ?such can live for Christ ; and be daily witnesses for God.' Hts audience was spellbound for one hour and six minutes, and would gladly have listened an hour longer. At 2 o'clock the people began to go in the Church, and were all settled comfortably in their places by preaching time. Dr. J. C. For? man said that it would be impossible to give a complete history of Bethel from its organizado?, 100 years ago, np to the present time, as he had to j depend on the minutes of the Charles? ton Association, and they were broken. His text was : 'Now therefore are we all here present before God* to bear all things that are commanded thee o? God? from which he preached a short sermon : and continued by reading the minutes as far as they re? lated to Bethel, occasionally telling an iucident of its history not on the minutes., but either known to him or related by friends. Dr. Furman said that at a meeting of the Association held at Bethel fifty-five years ago, a young man who had just come np from Charleston, was to preach his trial sermon. *TItose of you whose heads are gray probably remember the faltering boy who tried to preach to you, and he uow stands before you a somewhat faltering old man.' Sacred memories seemed to well up in Dr. Furman*s mind, at tinos almost choking his voice, lt was a pleasure to he>r him recount reminiceuccs of the good men who have at times fed the ?<>ck with Manna from God's word. With some ol them, Dr. Fur man was intimately acquainted. Thehymn8, in both the morning aud evening services, were those grand old melodies that are familiar to all. The congregation was dismissed at 4 o'clock ; aud again we are in the old routine of every day life. God grant that we may better per? form tlie humble duties of our lives ; and may His blessing rest upon all who were present at any time during those sacred hours. OCCASIONAL. I tried a great many liniments which failed to benefit the injured part. At last when disgusted, and ready to give up the colt as mined, I happened to see your advertisement ef "Ken? dall's Blister and Spavin Cure," and thought I would give it a trial, I first applied the "Blister" to the bock which by this time had become calloused, and io mr surprise found it work like? charm. In twenty fonr hours the part that was hard became soft ?nd the lameless began to leave.
