An old colored man, Washington Sumter j \. by-name, was-found dead in the re*r of the j ? office of Messrs Blanding k Blauding on yes- j Ktvcday morning. He lived about eleven miles j W from-Sumter in the Stateborg neighborhood, ? and bad cometo town on horseback priori-j pally^for the purpose of conveying his real j estate to his wife by a deed of gift. A few j moments before he was found dead, he was . in the office of the Clerk of the Court in ap- ! _ parently his usual health, where the deed was j f being written. An inquest was held over his j remains, and the opinion of the jury w as that ; j be died from a disease of the heart. Burned to Deat?i. Geo. Graham, a yoong colored man, was ? barned to death this morning about 3 o'clock, j t He was visiting some colored women who live j intbe jrardofMr. W.B. Peebles, and while j sitting before tbe fire soddenly fell forward j and was fatally burned. The other iemntes j : ot the house claimed to have been asleep at i : the time, and on awaking, found him in a j prone position upon the fire. It is said that j he was subject to epileptic seizures and a j large scar upon bis body was caused by bi3 ! I having been burned in a similar way before^ j It is probable that an attack of this kind oe- j casioned his fall and the want of timely assis- j tance resulted in his deaib. j Tha Baptist Association.
