The Municipal Election.
The Town election on last Tuesday resulted
in the election of Mr. M. F. Hewson as War?
den, with the other candidates nominated at
the Citizens' Meeting, excepting Dr. Auld.
There- being only otro full ticket in the
field, besides Mr. Hewson, who seemed to have
concentrated in himself the full strength of
the opposition, Mr. Hewson enjoys the satis?
faction of having elected his full ticket, while
the :'Citizens" who feel their defeat can take
comfort ia having lost only one man. Per?
haps they do not fally appreciate his magna?
nimity to Setting them off sc lightly.
Dr. Auld can congratulate himself upon
the very respectable support he received. The
only trc-ubte about it was that there was not

The Snow in 49.
Many of our citizens remember the snow on
the 15th of April 1849. (thirty three j ears
ago last Saturday.) Gora was :iknee high,"
wheat was "ia boot" and some of it hended
out; strawberries were ripe and the whole
vegetable kingdom was rejoicing in the glad?
some spring time when the snow came.
Growing crops were killed and the forests and
fields soon after bad thc appearance of having
been visited by a general and sweeping fire.
Well-Merited Success.
A gentleman once asked a distinguished dis?
pensing druggist to explain the secret of the
almost universal demand for Dr. Richmond's
Samaritan Nervine. He said that it was in
fact a genuine medicine-such a compound
as every good physician would prescribe for
the disease which it w?s advertised to cure.
Of course it cost less than any druggist would
charge for the same article supplied on a phy?
sician's prescription, and besides, there was
j a saving of a doctor's fee in addition. More
j over, by buying the drugs in such enormous j
j quantities, and having a perfect apparatus for i
! compounding the mixture, he was not only j
! enabled to get belier articles in the first place. ?
j but also to present the medicine in better form I
; and at less price than the same preparation j
j could be possibly obtained from any other \
> source. Dr. Richmond has devoted all his I
i energies to the alleviation pf human suffering, j
With this end in view, and with his whole
heart in his great labor for ?lie benefit of the
j afflicted, he has achieved marked and merited
? success. There can be no real success without
j true merit. That his success is real is evidenc
; ed by the fact that his reputation as a man
j and physician does not deteriorate, and the
j fact that there is a steadily incrcasir.gdemand
j for his Samaritan Nervine proves that it ia no
nostrum, but a reliable remedy. He has re?
peatedly informed the public that it is no pa?
tent medicine, and no patent has ever been j
j asked for or obtaiued. Neilher does he adver- i
j tise it as a cure-all. There are hundreds of!
diseases that he acknowledges it will not cure. !
It may be urged that some of these diseases j
are so widely different that it seems absurd to ?
j prescribe the same remedy. They may differ j
j in symptoms, yet in character be precisely :
j similar; and then we must take into consid- I
j erarion the fact that remedies may possess
j various properties. Thus, some medicines
i are both tunic and alterative : others may be ;
tonic and laxative, the properties differing ac?
cording to the quantity administered and the
time and circumstances which demand its
emp?o} ment.
In the manufacture of any : harmacectical
j preparation the purity and strength of the j
j materials used, and the requisite machinery j
. to be employed, are among thechief essentials, j
? The first is insured by purchasing the ingre- j
j dients in large quantities, whereby the c-xer- i
j eise of greater care in selecting the materials :
i caa be afforded ; and the second eau only be j
I accomplished where the business insufficiently ;
! extensive to warrant a large outlay of capital j
. in procuring chemical apparatus. These facts ;
! apply with especial force to the manufacture ;
j of our medicines, their quality having been I
! vastly improved since the demand has be- ?
? come so great as to require their manufacture j
j in very large quantities.
These ideas are not mere speculative re- :
I marks to mislead the reader, or to imbue him !
; with false views of the superiority of o'ur med- j
! icines. While inspecting Dr. Richmond's es- I
. tablishment yon would be surprised to see the j
! admirable facilities, both chemical and meehan- '
. tent, which he employes in the prosecution of '
i his business. Everything i? arranged in the
j most perfectly systematic order, and while to
j the general observer there, appears to be no
I room for improvement, yet new apparatus j
j and mechanical appliances are constantly be- ?
? ing procured for ihe establishment. ' j

j WRITTEN JULY 26TH. 1881.
j Ob ! "Peyton our darling, "my own angel
brother,
j 'Tis one year to-day since we parted with
thee,
j And our hearts are still bleediug; but Jesus
j has promised
j "As thy day may demand shall thy strength
ex-er be."
We all felt this truth when Ile took yon, our
darling,
? But every day makes thy loss harder to bear ;
! And looking through tears to thy beautiful
mansion
We long to: the time when thy glories we'll
share.
We know God is with us, but sometime?, my
darling,
We have not His peace, for our faith will
grow weak.
But we take up new courage for knowing
where thou art
We feel there is jome one our pardon to seek.
Plead with Jesus often, our darling, our pure
one,
As oft as thy feet near His beautiful throne;
For the road is so rough that sometimes we
falter
And feel in the darkness that we are alone.
We pray for that peace that is "calm as j
a river,"
And a heart that would always submit to His j
will ;
But all we have felt is a'peace only transient,
And a heart that continues to long for thee !
Still. ' j
We will never give up though, our darling, j
my brother j
Though restless and chastened yet faithful
we'll be;
And some day we know, when the clouds are ?
all over, ? ?
We'll live in the sunlight with Jesusand thee, j
