Dime Reading meets at Capt. Cordes' Thurs
day evening.
Mrs. Mary Fraser, of Bishopville, died on
last Tuesday.
The Episcopal and Catholic Churches, were !
beautifully decorated last Sunday. The reg- !
ular Easter services were listened to by large j
and appreciative audiences.
The steam mill of Rev. E. A. Edwards has j
been removed from Providence, and is being j
put np on Liberty street just below the Catb- j
olic Church. In a few days he will be ready j
to do grinding for the community.
An accident happened to Mr. E. Hartwell |
Pringle on Friday last, which resulted in his j
death. It seems that he was standing on the |
rear end of a wagon loaded with straw, and j
by some means losing his balance, he ftll j
backwards to tbe ground. His little son was j
with him, and on finding that his father was j
speechless, he weot for aid. But on the ar- J
rival of a neighbor, it was discovered that j
death had claimed its prey. The eyes were j
set and the body pulseless The funeral ser- j
vices were held on Saturday mcrnicg at the j
residence of Dr. Pringle, and tbe body was'
interred in the burial ground at Concord j
Church.
A farmer of tbe Privateer neighborhood, i
complains that the Stock lav.- has had such a j
reducing effect upon the flesh of his milk cows !
that they give sour milk. He attributes the j
cause of this phenomenon to the fact tuat they j
are so thin the sun shines through.
The fire well of Mr. T. C. Scaffe's ioven-j
tion, was tested on yesterday afternoon, with !
jr^ial sa<x-ess. The suction hose having been j
connected to the hydrant by means of a pipe j
of small diameter, the supply of water was!
reduced. This defect will be immediately j
remedied, when sufficient water will be ob- j
tained.
We see from the Columbia Roister of Sat
nrday, that the Ricblaad Ybluuteers have ac- I
cepted tbe invitation of tbeSumter Light In- j
fantry to be present, at the Celebration of
their Anniversary on the 2d of May, proximo.
The Central Railroad was turned over to ;
the lessees last week and according to ;
the change of schedule, the Charleston !
train arrives here at 1 o'clock P. M., and j
leaves at 1.45 P. M. A regular mail service j :
has been put upon the road, and the hours i
for opening and closing same will be seen in j
tbe P. 0. announcement. Tbe Charleston
mail, however, goes as heretofore, as tbe hour !
of arrival ia Charleston, via the Central, is ;
considered by our Post Master as too late to |

The farmers of tbe County are generally in j
good spirits. C?rn is for the most part in j
tbe ground and much of it up. Preparations \
are being made for planting cotton. The ! '
oat crop was never more promising nora|
larger acreage planted. Forty-five days I
more will relieve the necessity of corn-buying i ;
among the farmers, in a great measure.
We are informed that the pastors of oar j
churches are arranging to close all the church- ;
es except one during the summer mon'hs, on j
Sunday night. In ibis way, they hope to se- \ .
core a little rest to themselves, and to seek to ';
cultivate a true fraternity of spirit among the j
members of their respective Churches. Jude:- !

The ItTunicipal Election
The polls wer? opened at seven o'clock this
morning tor our Municipal Election. A Citi
zens' Ticket was made up at the public meet
ing on Thursday night last, as follows:
For Intendant?Horace Harby.
For Wardens?Richard P. Monaghan,
James M. Epperson, Myles Moran, and Donald
J. Auld.
The opposing ticket cousists of Horace Har
by (our candidate,) for Intendant, and M. F.
Hewson for Warden. As it requires four War
dens to make a complete ticket, and toadmiu- i
isttr the affairs of the Town, we suppose that
when Hewson nominated himself he regarded :
the candidate as possessing the importance j
and ability of the usual four. Such presump- j
tion has rarely been equalled in this country.
Although the issue can only be guessed at j
the hoar of going to press, yet there is full
conSdeuce of a victory for the Citizens'
Ticket.

We direct the attention of our readers to

concluded to pay the celebrated institution a j
short visit. We were met by Dr. Richmond, j
the propietor, who has gained a reputation j
as broad as the land. He is a rather small, ;
yet prepossessing man. of very affable and j
gentlemany manners. He gave us a hearty j
welcome, and took great pains in showing i
through his palatial and mammoth institu- ;
tion. It is a five-story building, 200x180 \
feet, with basement, and contains over three i
hundred rooms, and can accommodate five !
hundred patients, and each and every room is j
furnished in the most elegant and lavish man- ;
ner. But we will begin at the office, which !
is a large room furnished with rosewood furn- j
itnre throughout. Iu the office are thousands ;
of photographs of those who have been bene- i
fired by the Nervine. The wails are elegantly
papered, and are profusely decorated with j
rich and costly pictures, relieved here and
tr.ere by busts in stone and orouze of end- !
neat men of this and other countries. Isi"
connection with the institute is a mammoth;
printing house and bindery, occupying six or !
seven large rooms, and a score of presses are
kept running night suid day turning out j
work for the doctor. The office is one of the |
finest and most compl-te in the west, and he j
has the rooms decorated, carpeted*and trim- !
med up with as much care and luxury as in j
his own private office. On the first floor j j
of this mammoth building is the doctor's pri- i
vate office, the printing department, bindery, j
tank room, packing, bottling and consulta- 1
tion rooms, barber shop, drug store, etc., all!
of which are fitted op regardless of expense. I
The second floor has the hotel office, dining, j
billiard and cooking ro^ms, many guest j
chambers aud several parlors The third and !
fourth floors are all room*, all of. which are j
furnished with Brussels carpets and the finest ' .
furniture. The billiard room has six tables, i
all of which are free to the guests of the j
house and their friends. The bath room is i
is large and neat, and is also free to guests. ' '
The entire building is surrounded on the east j
and south by an elegant five acre park, in j
which are lovely trees, beds of rich and rare j
plants, gravel walks and drives, delicious ar- j
bors, and most beautiful summer house. There i
are also a number of fountaius that add wen- j

truly one of the most lovely and attractive in j
the western country and the Institute has no
equal for luxury and comfort in the world, j
Everything is perfection, and the visitor is at i
once charmed with the entire place and its
surroundiugs. An idea of the immensity
of the doctor's business may be given when i !
we,say that on the day we visited the Insti- '
tute he showed us to his express room,
and we saw the expressman take goods
labelled to toe following places, to say j
nothing of hundreds of orders from all j
quarters of America*; Lyons, France; Geneva. :

gium ; Cape Town, Africa; Shanghai. China; ;

bourne, Australia. The doctor employs !
