Death of Mrs. J. T. Solomons.
Active and broad bas been the sweep of the
scythe of Death through this community
within the last month, and some of our oldest
citizens have been suddenly called to their
eternal rest; and those who were near and
dear to them are now experiencing a grief,
which time alone can heal. If the death of
those who had entered the evening of their
days-who had been providentially blessed,
with a lease upon this life to the very sunset
of the natural days of man, leave behind such
keen grief, to what shall wc compare that
feeling of sorrow, wheo one who has been
cut down and borne away by the angels be?
fore life's noon-day sun had begun to decline?
Such was the death of Mrs. J. T. Solomons !
Mrs. Solomons went to Columbia last Tues?
day morning and placed herself under treat?
ment, and after a painful surgical operation,
died last Saturday, at the residence of Mr.
T. 31. Pollock. She began to sink, on Sat?
urday afternoon, at ten minutes before five,
and died at five o'clock. The sad intelligence
reached Sumter about seven o'clock, and it
was painful to witness the expressions of sor- j
row which came over the countenances of
every one to whom ii was told. "What ! is
Mrs. Julia Solomons dead! Oh no, it can't
be true; for no longer thnn the other day.
I saw her apparently in perfect health," invol?
untarily came from the lins of those who were i
not rendered speechless at the breaking of this
sad news.
This death has touched the hearts of the
entire community, and truly might it be said
that nearly every family feds as though some
relative and not a friend bas gone. May the
all merciful Father soothe the heart-stricken
mother and comfort the two little orphan
daughters.
Mrs. Solomons' body was brought over
fronKjColnmbia last Sunday night, and taken j
to the residence of Mrs. C. Schwerin, her
mother, where the funeral services were held
yesterday afternoon. The remains were borne
by the hands of affectionate friends to the |
hearse, and followed by a sympathizing
throng to her last resting place on earth, and
there, after the recitation of the soieran ritual
of the dead, and while the heavens themselves
seemed to *.<e cognizant of the grief below, she j
was laid beneath the sod. Wreaths of beau- j
tiful Howers, made by loving hands, were j
gen liv placed upon the newly made grave, j
and sorrowful friends, with a lingering look, j
left it to the guardianship of Him who causes
all things to be done for His glory, and not j
for man's.

A Gocd Housewife.
A good housewife, when she is giving her
house its spring renovating, should bear in
mind that the dear inmates of her house are
more precious than many houses, and that
their systems need cleansing by purifying the
blood, regulating the stomach and bowels to
prevent?.nd cure the diseases arising from
spring malaria and miasma, and she must
know that there is nothing that will do it so
perfectly and surely as Hop Bitters, the pur?

And went "sailing o'er the sea;"
But Til sue him 'fore the 'squire,

This is a machine cart holding thirty to forty bushels, with large wheels, broad tire,
and a short tongue to connect with the forward wheels of any farm wagon at the king

means of suitable machinery, when in gear, moves slowly between the sides of body, car?
rying ihe load to the rear where it meets a swiftly revolving cylinder armed with teeth
that picks the material to pieces and scatters it in fine particles as the team moves along,
lt will pulverize and evenly spread all kinds of manure, from the coarsest tc the finest,
ashes and lime, wet or dry, mail, muck, cotton seed, cotton seed meal, and all like fertili?
