The fall term of the civil court d
which was in session here the greater J.
part of the past week, adjourning v
late Friday, was one of the most sat- t
isfactory sessions that can be recall- a
gd by the older attendants and mem- ji
bers of the local bar. Splendid order
and discipline prevailed through- i
out, officers of the court, attorneys, ^
jurymen and wtnesses were constant '
n ther attendance and there was no
unnecessary delays. The conclusions J
reached by the jurors n the various ^
contentions were considered by lay- j
men to be reasonable, just and in
keeping with the letter of the law, I

of no little satisfaction and comfort
to the presiding judge and to
the jurors who have to "split hairs"
some times in reaching a verdict. 1
Especially notable of the sessidn was
the happy culmination of the last
case, a knotty and rather unique one
in South Carolina courts, which, after
an array of evidence on both sides ^
and in the face of a great stack <
legal documents from the libraries
of able counsel, J^idge DeVore was

Kingstree for at least another twelve
months. Another source of sincere
gratification to come to the people
of this community along the same (
lir e, is the decision of the Rev. (
John W. Davis of the IVesbyterian i
church, to remain among us by re- 1
fusing to accept a call to Water Val
ley, Mississippi, recently tendered '
him Kv Prpshvtprian church at '
that place. We feel that Kingstree
is greatly blessed in the matter of
its clergy. They are all good, Godfearing
men. None of them are "old
fogies." They are broad-minded
men, liberal in their views and loyal
to their respective churches. We believe
at no time in the history of
Kingstree has the spirit of religious
coopei-ation among the pastors of the
several churches been more thoroughly
in unison of purpose than is characteristic
of our present clergy. May
their sojourn among us be long and
peaceful and their work in this field
be of such a nature that they niay
look back upon it with a sense of
pleasurable pride and delight long
after they have passed on to other
charges.
