Method of Inoculating Legume Seed. |
I
Instead of sowing 400 to 500 pounds |,
of inoculated soil per acre for le-1
gumes, adopt the following:
Make a thin syrup of molasses, I (
sugar or glue, and spray on the le- j
gume seed which are spread out in ; j
f ,^rin layer. Thoroughly stii seed un- j(

**ticky." Then mix seed and inocu-1 <
lated soil in equal parts by weight, i
Thoroughly stir and mix unti* seed j
are covered with adherring soil. Sow j (
this mixture and immediately cover'
with soil before bacteria are damaged
by the sun and light. <
In securing soil for such use, jret'
that where the proper legume has
been grown successfully for two years j
previously, remove the first inch or
two of top soil, and get your supply
tho next four or five inches. ,
Remember that Red clover, crim- ;
son clover, alsike clover, little white 1
clover have the same bacteria.
Bur clover, mellilotus or sweet j
clover, and alfalfa have the same
bacteria.
All vetches, English peas and sweet 1
"'peas have the same bacteria. <
Only three kinds of bacteria, therefore,
are necessary for inoculating 1
the above nine legumes.
