Demonstration Notes.
Miss Lola Snider, food specialist
from Winthrop College, was here
Tuesday to help with the County Biscuit
contest. She said that the girls
all worked well and showed that they
had been working ut home. The
scores ran from 85 to 94 3-4. Bessie
Lockliear won first place with a
sccre of 9? o-? which is one of the
highest that has been made in the
state. Carrie Bell Lockliear came
second. Geneva Brown third, Mamie
Hanna fourth. The county winner
will go to Sumter on September 30
to the district contest, the winner
from there goes to the state contest
during the state fair.
Canning Contest.
Myrtle Cantley and Lona Lockliear
have been chosen to represent Williamsburg
county in the National
Canning contest. They are now
working hard to get ready for the
state contest. The winning team
from the state w'll have a chance
to try again with the Southern
states in Atlanta, the winner from
there goes to Chicago where two
teams will be selected to give demonstrations
in France. Mrs. Johnson
and Mrs. Campbell have been here to
help train the girls and they were
very much pleased with the work
done by the girls. We are proud of
them ard believe that they are going
to win. These girls were selected
because of the reports sent in and
the work that they have been doing
for the past 4 years. Girls, you never
know when your opportunity- is
coming. Keep on working and do
not fail to send in reports.
The Central Home Demonstration
club will meet with Mrs. Fred Guerry
on Thursday, September 14th, at
3 o'clock, at which time our canning
team, Myrtle Cantley and Lona Lock- i
liear, will give demonstrations of
fruits and meats. You cannot afford
to miss this meeting.

Mr. S. Alex.Tisdale and Mrs. Belle
McCullough were qufetly married
Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock,
at the parsonage by Rev. J. P. Inabnet.
Mrs. McCullough is well
known in the community. She lost
her former husband several years
ago.
Mr. Alex. Tisdale, a bachelor of
renown and good repute, was raised
in the same community with his better
half?and rumor says they were
sweethearts in their younger days.
And the self same feeling has culminated
in this nuptial agreement.
Would that the other bachelors who
have made Cedar Swamp famous for
the number of unmarried men could
see the errors of their way and soften
their hearts to the susceptibility of
cupids darts.
Mr. G. 01 lie Kpps, who has been a
resident of Cedar Swamp for twelve
years, moved to Kingstree this week.
Mr. Epps and his family have been
quite an appreciative addition to the
community in even* respect and their
leaving has caused sincere regret in
the entire neighborhood.

Mr. J. A. Epps, R. W. Ward and others
who have been at Murrel's Inlet
for their summer vacation, have returned
home.
William Brown has returned to
Presbyterian College at Clinton.

Hemingway, Sept. 5.?The. Hemingway
high school opened Monday
morning with fourteen teachers and
three hundred and forty pupils. Prof.
W. D. Halfacre with his corps of
compitent teachers expect to have
the most successful school term in
the history of the school and the
largest attendance, as there are a
number of pupils from Indiantown,
Johnsonville and Kingsburg to attend
the high school here this winter.
The high school teachers will be
Prof. W. D. Halfacre, Misses Williams,
Warren, DeLoach; graded
school, Misses Snow, Giddings, Zimmermon,
Winn, Gowdy, Galloway,
Kennedy and Parlor, Miss Cockfield
music, and Mr. E. L. Rogers agriculture.
Miss Wilma Harmon of Florence,
is spending her vacation here with
her mother, Mrs. R. T. Harmon.
Mesdames W. T. Hemingway and
Jack Hyman spent Tuesday with

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hemingway
spent Tuesday in Charleston, Mrs.
Hemingway going from there to Sumter
to visit relatives.
Col. Simmons of Atlanta, visited
his brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Shine
here Monday and Tuesday. He gave
an interesting lecture to an attentive
audience Monday evening on Klu
Klux Klan work and for what it
stands.
Miss Edna Eaddy left Sunday for
McColl, where she will take up her
duties as teacher in the school there.
Mr. Roy Eddleman of Springfield,
Ky., is a pleasant caller in town.
