JEFFORDS COMPLETES APPEAL.
Sets Forth Eleven Exceptions Judge's
Rulings.

Columbia, July 21.?F. M. Jeffords,
one of the trio convicted of the murder
of J. C.Arnette, Columbia filling
station proprietor, and sentenced to.
die on June 15th, but whose notice
; of appeal stayed his execution, to
I day perfected the appeal when he
i served on Solicitor Spigner, of Co-,
lumbia, the papers setting forth the
ground of his appeal.
L. G. Southard of Spartanburg and,
Barron, Barron and Barron, of Union,
represent Jeffords. The appeal
contains eleven exceptions to the rul- j
ings of Judge Townsend in the case.
The appeal also alleges that as the
trial started on May 15 when the j
crime was committed on the 8th, J
there was intense public feeling
against the defendant.
1 The appeal also sets forth that the!
; trial judge erred in denying separate
trials for the three men, Jeffords,
Harrison and Treece.

Veteran of Seven Wars.
Robare Bruce MacGregor of Seattle,
Wash., soldier of fortune who
has spent the greater part of his 48
years drifting around the world looking
for chances to fight, recently obtained
jobs for 236 former soldiers.
In MacGregor's career he found wars
seven different times and jumped into
them all. His last war was the!
one where the Allies won from the.
Germans.
He served with the original Princess
Pat regiment which numbered 1,093
men in 1914. Eleven of those 1,093
are now alive. Two of the eleven
can walk. One of them is MacGregor.
Before the World War MacGregor
fought in the Philippines as his bit
in the Spanish-American War. The
Boxers started mixing it up in China 1
and he was off to that fracas. The
Natal Rebellion croped up in South '
Africa. MacGregor made the jump
from China and landed in the middle
o'f that war. The Matabele Uprising
and the Jamieson Raid followed.
Twelve medals, four decorations .
and wounds which keep him constantly
under the doctor's care are his :
spoils. 1
Despite his disabilities he still i
fights. Just now he is giving the ;
unemployment problem a battle in :
his home city, Seattle. Besides that
he has adopted and is educating a ;
fifteen year old boy.
