"Katcha-Koo" is Unique and Brilliant. ] Katcha-Koo, and Oriental American . musical comedy, to be sta^ .. under the auspices of U. D. C. at the school auditorium on the date, December 16, ? 1921, is said to be the most stupendous ] and brilliant amateur affair ever pre- ] sented in Kingstree. This is the ? opinion of those who have witnessed j the daily rehearsals which are being ' held under the direction of Miss Dag mar Carlson. ! Katcha-Koo will surprise everyone ; by being just about the nearest to ? , a professional presentation ever giv- ? en by local talent. The mystery of ? the Orient and the practical patriotism of modern times are artfully combined amid wierd and spectacular scenic effects, shadowed lights, Oriental tapestry, brilliant costumes and t the lilt of sweet melodies. There are f scores of pretty girls in every scene, o while the closing tableau entitled, * "Liberty Aflame" presents the most ? attractive group of younger and old- t er ladies that were ever assembled f on a local stage. F A mono- the dances which are all * very different from one another are g the Veil dance, Polo dance and the v Auld Lang Syne group. The latter < will be greatly enhanced by the sing- 0 ing of "When I went to school with v you" by Dick and Dolly, portrayed by Archie Wilkins and Ollie Crockett, < "KJatcha-Koo," a Fakir, Mr. Zeno ? Montgomery transfixes himself before ^ the Maharajah's Temple for weeks at s a time without moving. He is also t said to control an amount of genuine "curses" sufficient to bring fear to the hearts of the natives. c The Maharajah's neives, badly shat- t tered by the persistance of the Fakir, F orders the ladies of his household, j Urbanah, played by Miss Ola DuBose t and Solejah, the Widow of Wizard, t taken by Miss Carrie Lancaster to give Mr. Katcha-Koo the "gate." The | pair fa;l miserably and the Maharajah r consoles them with the fact that he J will feed them poison and then use ! them as ioaaer ior u?e mwo, e growls can be heard off stage. The Maharajah's personal slave, Boodypah, c will be portrayed by Mr. Eugene King. . t At this point, Messrs. Dick Horton, c who is really Mr. Archie Wilkins and * Harry Bradstone, taken by Mr. Kalb j appear on the scene and doll Katcha- j Koo up in magic garments which c^use him immediately to make love ? to the Maharajah's four wives, played r by Dordie McGill, Marian McFadden, j Mrs. Clarence Alsbrook and Lavinia t Kinard. Of course, this doesn't help the Maharajah's disposition and more ' complications result, on the whole suppling an interesting story and lots o of fun throughout the play. * o } Dr. C.
