of Business Men. t
The Carrol Times is getting out
sane advertising for itself that is a
Etrie bit different and about the best
we-Rave seen. A sample is in the form
a<L a neatly printed little booklet of
twelve pages entitled, "The Story of
a Hen Who Quit Scratching Beccause j
There Was a Shortage of Worms."
It is indicted "By the Carroll Times
Belt Hop." A picture of the aforesaid
hen is printed in red and it is about
the most dejected looking critter that
we have seen anywhere. The story
then, goes on to mention such a hen

FATHER PATRICK E. HESLIN
WTIJLIAM HIGHTOWER
Father Patrick E. Heslin was called
from his home in Colma, Calif., one
night to confess a "dying man." He
never returned, and letters began to
arrive demanding a ransom for his
Eberty. A few days later, William
Hightower, claiming that he had trailad
the priest, led the police to a lodge
of a cliff, where Heslins body was
found riddled with bullets.

nessary for him to advertise as he had

where the cemetery was and that it
had been here longer than he had, still
I didn't see a mad rush for that place.
"And I wondered too, if that man
died, if his friends were so many and
so steadfast that they would die too,
just for the sake of being near him so

"Of course they are mighty few
who spring that old gag about 'every
one knowing where I am. now days.
Even the man who is 35 or 40 years
behind the times knows that people
are not going to continue trading with

is located.

the fact that real business men are
after business that brings business to
them in this day and age. Any one can
tell what the past is but the man thar
looks into the future and marks out
a pathway for himself is the man who
is going to make good."

Sunflowers Used for Silage.
The use of sunflowers for silage has
proved popular in certain of the
Northern Great Plains and InterMountain
states where it is not possible
to produce a large tonnage of corn
for silage purposes. In some sections
the silage made from sunflowers has
been found to compare favorably in
palatability and feeding value with
the silage made from corn. This is
not always the case, however, as it appears
that in certain irrigated districts
in the Northern Great Plains
where the growth of sunflowers is
rank and succulent, the resulting silage
is often not very palatable. Exneriments
reDorted from the Huntley
Experiment Farm in Montana of the
United States Department of Agriculture
show that while it is possible
to produce from 25 to 30 tons of sunflowers
per acre, it has been difficult
to produce a silage that is as much
relished by livestock as corn silage,
which gives rather less than half as
much tonnage per acre.
