NOTICE TO TEACHERS
To the Teachers of Williamsburg and
adjacent Counties:
Dear Fellow Teacher:
There are teachers in these counties
who know that they must attend
a State Normal School this summer,
yet for more tnan one reason preier
to be near home.
For the convenience of these teachers
and those who desire to better
themselves, although they are not
compelled to attend and for prospective
teachers who are to take the
State examination this Fall, we are
glad to inform you that there will be
an authorized State Summer Norma!
for Colored Teachers at Kingstree, S.
C. from August 1 to September 10th
1921.
The State Board of Kducation has
ruled that a teacher is compelled to
have a State Certificate. These certificates
may be secured by being a
graduate of one of the accredited Colleges
of the State of South Carolina;
by taking the State examination; or
by attending one of the State accredited
Summer normals for three years.
These certificates, except third grade,
once secured are to be renewed every
two years. They will be renewed by
presenting a certificate of attendance
at a State accredited Summer Normal
to the State Board of Examiners.
Each teacher is required to take not
less than three of the following subjects:
Civics, Physiology, Geography,
History. Pedagogy: Agriculture, Priimary
Methods, English, Algebra, and
Arithmetic.
All of our instructors are not only
experienced teachers, but have had
special training in what they are to
teach.
The following are the instructors:
J. B. Beck, Principal Georgetown Colored
Training School; Miss Mattie
Owens, Teacher of State College; Mrs.
Flora Nesmith, County Supervisor
Colored Schools of Williamsburg
County; D. L. Fulton, Principal the
Tomlinson Graded and High School,
Kingstree, S. C., and an instructor of
the Summer School for the past two
years at Kingstree, S. C.
This normal will run six weeks and
each teacher is required to pay the
small sum of three dollars to aid in
running the school.
No credit will be given for less than
four week's attendance.
For further information write or
see D. L. Fulton, Assistant Director
of Summer Normal, Box 163, Kingstree,
S. C.
